The '76 gets my vote. It's a much better strike and the toning on the '74 is nearing or at final stage based on the images posted.

Thanks everyone. I was leaning towards the 76 because of the better strike. Was a tough call for me. Appreciate all the input!

The '76-S for sure. The first one will acquire terminal toning in an album after years. Second one also has better eye appeal IMO.

Voted for the 76 because of the toning on the 74.

I voted the 76-S, it will look much better in an MS type set unless you've got other heavily toned MS coins.

I like the 1874-s but if you are in doubt I would opt for the coin that matches the other coins in your type set.

76-S for me. I'm not too partial to toned coins so it was an easy choice.

I didn't like the toning on the 74...maybe it was just the pics...I went with the 76

I'd have to go with the '76.
Did the '74 grade MS? I ask because of the lack of detail in the hair. Perhaps it resulted form a worn die or grease filling the details of the die. Just not sure ...

I'd go with the '76 as well. It's been well over a month - what happened?

The 74 has better toning but it would turn sour. The 76-S has much better detail and luster I vote the 76-S

I am assuming you own both coins. I would recommend NEVER cracking MS classic US coins to put them in an album. You risk damaging the coin or getting a lower grade upon resubmission. Not to mention that you would have to eat the resubmission costs as well. But if I had to choose, I'd go with the 1874 because it would most likely maintain its grade due to the color.

Going for an MS set I'd keep the 1876s and crack out the 1874s. The hair detail on the latter could be upgraded for a very nice set. Great coins!
