Do you mean true die varieties (different working dies)? Or minor errors like die chips?

yes but you will see them very easy if you look. I just figured the members here would already know these new varieties. these are on the 150 year loonie. the toonies I think 2 them are from wear. the other 2 are a die change. there easy to see. just check your rolls closely. you will see them.

Interesting varieties! Thanks for sharing!
@SPP-Ottawa, the rolls you found this variety are special wrapped, or just plain wrapped?

Bit of both... although, it is tough to crack a special wrapped roll when it costs almost double face value...

Has anyone noticed the difference in the steps at the base of the lighthouse? There seems to be quite a few with incomplete steps.

I spoke with a production manager of the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg. He sent me a photo of the master punch, used to make all the working dies for this coin. It does not have the line in it. There were no other punches used to make the working dies. This feature is the product of a die break, but rather serendipitous...

That looks more like a slip of an engraving tool. Of course The Mint didn't make a mistake. Hmmm... one master ? Would you only have one if you were the boss ? Hmmm.. a backup , Hmmm.. Nah, pshaw, we'll be okay with only one ! What could go wrong ? !

I'm bringing this post up. I finally got an example of this coin after few years of research. This is not a die crack. My conclusion is a broken hub that produces few working dies with few variants of the stripes position. Some rise elements of the hub have broken but stay attached with different positions. These new features were replicated on some working dies. On my pictures you can see that the texture of the original position of the stripes is quite rough which a a sign of the damage. On the second picture, you can also notice on the top part of the left strip a small additional segment.
