Quote: The silver eagle looks like the bald eagle IMO, but as far as that millunium set if the coins is gold and silver, at least 800 I belive its very rare to have a set in that good of condition. If you dont mind me asking...how did you obtain these?
eduit actually I belive that is 3 silver's 1 gold and 1 platnium? so that would be well over $1200 my uncle sends me these every year for my birthday/Christmas presents and I'm not really sure what to do with them. he tells me they are worth "alot" and how "rare" they are but since I am not in the coin collecting scene it doesn't really mean much to me. He tells me to hold onto them because they were only go up in value. They pretty much just sit in a box at my house. the Silver American Eagle One Dollar Coin is from 2003. here are some more pics for you guys -

The Kiribati Millenium set I've seen for about $600. The 1999 silver proof set is selling for $285-320 on ebay. It's a nice start to a coin collection. I suggest going to a newsstand and picking up Coin Prices magazine, it will be $5 well spent.

Anything with "The New York Mint" label on it would make me really nervous ! That's not a U.S. Mint product.....and just like the Franklin Mint, Littleton, The National Collectors Mint, etc. etc........their "non-U.S." coinage is generally only worth melt value........unless ya can find an ebay person or somebody to pay you for them. I would never buy anything from the New York Mint no matter what the packaging and labeling tries to sell you on........"Millenium Melt Value" is what it should say on the box !

Just keep on letting them sit in the box. Some day these will be worth enough to pay for your first electric car.

The only big mistakes you could make is to allow them to become damaged or if you sell them before you obtain the knowledge as to how much they are really worth. The first step to come here before selling was a good one. Hope you find them interesting enough to stimulate the collecting bug to keep them! Nice relative, mine just seem to want to borrow coins and not give me any Jim

I don't necessarily agree that they'll go up in value if you hold onto them. Most of those 1990's proof sets you have are actually worth about the same -- or in some cases even less -- than they were 10 years ago! I'm sure your uncle means well, but in all honesty, I don't think proof sets are such a great investment.

Try any coin shop, coin store, some book stores or a coin show. Look for something called the Red Book. The prices are approximate for all your coins. They are what a dealer would sell them to you for and not what you could get for them. However, if you were interested in selling them, your best bet is to get that book, then put them up on ebay and try to get something as close to the Red Book. I suggest keeping them all for a future collection.

It's an investment.. you don't have to be a coin collector, just think of them as items that are sure to appreciate in value. Keep them safe!

An investment for "you" or your great-grandchildren ?.......if you're thinking long term, then family down the line may appreciate these.......no matter what kinds of coins you get. No one is going to have a wheelbarrow full of money after 20 years with the State Quarter Series......IMHO But it takes a lot of layers and purchases in all price ranges and all kinds of coins and materials to make a decent "collection" that WILL have some value in the future and you have a very nice start !!... ... ...

I'd hang on to those, the silver proof sets are decent for investment purposes and that 1999 set will continue to go up in value big time. Put them into a large ziplock bag to protect them ASAP!
