I heard some reach people put expensive coins just for fun. I heard that there was about a thousand 1909 S VDB cents spread around USA.

That is a find of a lifetime! I occasionaly find dimes in penny rolls.

Outstanding find! That will keep you searching for the rest of your life. The indentations on the rim look like "Bezel" marks from an old mounting, probably on a ring.
