It looks like silversmith or jeweler flatware initialing and bright cutting. Nicely done.

Who knows why they did it on a coin. Folk art at best.

It might of been done to cover up other flaws.

If it was they should have left it alone. The other flaws probably weren't as bad as what they ended up with.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am not that beholder. Even the engraving is not that good.

I have a gut feel neither the coin nor the engraving is what they pretend to be.

Not for everyone but I like it. It appears to be a period piece and as a Civil War date it is very desirable. A nicely engraved 1867 and some deeply engraved other areas that match quite well. All of this on a nice AU coin. You might be surprised at what it sells for.

I don't understand what you are saying. How did you save a 'poor sucker' $766? And how do you plan to save someone else $664?

I can think of several scenarios, but none of them are related to this thread.

@MikeF Behold my magnificent thread. I would nominate it for thread of the year, and myself new member of the year https://goccf.com/t/334264 And now I will see to it that the poor doofus that won the " Seated dollar" gets his $664 back.

@NE

Your comment seems directly aimed at getting yourself banned from this forum. It can happen very quickly if you like, or it can be a bit drawn out. The end result is the same because of your approach. It's a funny thing when you only have yourself to blame.

Well a nomination of one and a single vote aren't going to get you there.

It seems to be in question based on other members' comments, but I have little knowledge about these. I can bump your question, though.

I don't believe anyone has questioned the authenticity of the coin, the discussion has just been with its mutilation.
