In my opinion, the second a proof touches human hands, it is no longer proof.

Wouldn't acetone eat the mirror finish off the field ?

Once a proof always a proof. I have dipped a few of mine. You never know it. If its done right its not considered cleaned

Wear a cotton glove if you're worried.

I had some proofs that we're hazy. Acetone seemed to help a bit. There are threads on CCF debating the use of other substances which some people swear by.

Either way, the case has mold so it might be best to dump it. Maybe find one already opened online and use that as a replacement.

If you still want to open it and reuse it.... Use an x-acto knife and slowly work it around (into) the edge/seam of the case. Easy-peasy!

I'm pretty sure that the answer to this question is no. There are multiple threads on CCF that discuss this. You probably know that you can use the search box at the top of your screen (e.g. with PROOF and ACETONE as the keywords). Here is one example:

"If you climb a good tree, you get a push."
-----Ghanaian proverb

"The danger we all now face is distinguishing between what is authentic and what is performed."
-----King Adz

People use shrub cutters to cut a corner off and do it by hand after that.

You will not be able to open that lens without damaging it. They were actually sealed back then.
