I'd grade this XF-45. PCGS would cost a lot and would render a poor ROI. What about a service like ANACS? That way there is no membership fee.

Nice one though the date is 1973 you can tell because it's RDV-003 only used in 1973. Final Call: 1973 LMC Struck through thick late stage obverse die cap.

That's a great find ! I have only found one struck through a capped die coin and let's just say I have looked at quite a few little round discs in the last thirty years. Hope this inspires you to dig deeper into the hobby! GC , I don't think this one has the reverse of 1973. The designers initials would be taller for 003. This one looks to have RDV-004 which would place the date after 1973.

It's a late-stage counterbrockage (a type of capped die strike). Value on ebay would be around $50.

Mike , correct me if I"m wrong but this would be the steps that created this coin.
Starting assumption is rev die is anvil and obv is hammer.
1. Planchet is fed in and struck normally but not ejected from the collar. 2. Second planchet is fed in on top of already struck cent and is struck creating a full obv brockage. 3. The obv brockage sticks to the obv die and the first cent is ejected from the press. 4. The stuck brockage continues striking cents and in the process spreads out and forms a die cap. 5. Then this planchet was fed in and was struck between the rev die and the now expanded and distorted brockage die cap.
Correct?
