Th current generation of kids primary school kids have no idea of who Mr Squiggle (originally, a B.W. TV cartoon character), is!

I remember him, but then again, and I have been actively collecting coins sine I was a child, and that was a long time ago.
I already have two examples of this coin from Woolies.
They have been added to my complete type set of issued for circulation coins, including all commemoratives of all denominations, since 1910.

Makes me wonder if Mr S is going to be re-released on TV.

The coins may ignite a new batch of fans, so anything's possible.

It is no worse than the Royal Canadian Mint. Some of the things they issued "coins" for have little or no connection to Canada. At least Mr. Squiggles is Australian.

About frivolous commemoratives:
I wonder if the Royal Australian Mint will issue commemorative coin to mark centenary of the foundation of
Australian Society for the Preservation of Wooden Toilet Seats?

The Royal Canadian Mint seems on occasions, to be guilty of this sort of practice as well.

There's nothing frivilous about the RAM's lastest commemorative $2 offering at all.

The centenary of the foundation of the " Australian Society for the preservation of the wooden toilet seats " could very well be in the RAM's next $2 production schedule. The RAM might be a bit Crabby about the precise details of the coin, and have been sitting down waiting for their final decision to work its way out.

It appears as though that special limited $2 issue could begin production immediately after the current production run of the highly anticipated commemorative $2 " the 50th anniversary of aunt Glad's gallbladder removal " is eventually finished and released.

The $2 " Water has been discovered to be wet " commemorative could also be on the RAM's drawing board for potential release in 2020.

I can't really criticise the RAM when The Royal Mint has just issued the Gruffalo 50p!

I assumed that this (and the previous Possum Magic stuff) was targeted at kids (get them to check their change) but yeah, people who last saw Mr Squiggle on TV would have to be in their mid to late 20s now.

I bought two folders on launch day anyway and there were still plenty available.

Sorry to dredge this up again, but perhaps RAM could issue a set of $1 or $2 coins commemorating Fat Cat, Humphrey B Bear and Big Dog? Heh.

For the record, I'm 39 and remember Mr Squiggle. Blackboard is my favourite. Hurry Up!

I think anything goes these days

Remember...it's all about the making money rather than making commemoratives that really mean something

Pity really....

I am of the opinion the YouTube is also attracting new collectors with showing what they can find in their change or noodling.
