Well,. (deep subject)

I'm going to tap out on this endeavor. It's obvious that I am not skilled in large cent attribution. I've been staring at the point of the bust, the location of denticles and numerals, and trying to locate die markers for days.

Thanks to those who provided educated info. I'm going to say it's maybe a N-20 and leave at that, although I will still try for larger photos as soon as I can get motivated.

Edited: my browser froze in mid post

Late dates are very difficult because the diagnostic die markers are often very small, very faint, and often impossible to see unless the coin is high VF or better, preferably better. And also if you are using the Newcomb book that can be another added difficulty.

Grellman's book is pretty helpful if you can find a copy. Still not easy though.

I have heard that these later dates are difficult, but I didn't realize how much so until I tried this one.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Grellman book, Jerry.

......or you can just send it to him. That's always fun.

@edweather, can you provide details about sending a coin to Mr. Grellman? I have done site search and see that he has been discussed quite often, but usually a PM is sent. I saw his address in Florida. What sort of fee is involved, etc? Thanks!

I don't know if he has changed his fee or not, it used to be a dollar per coin.

I sent one coin to him a few years ago, but don't remember all the details. Jerry might have the info, but not sure. Maybe you could send him a PM.

Just found this:

His mailing address is J.R.(Bob) Grellman P.O. Box 17226 Amelia Island FL. 32035-3138 Haven't sent him any coins for awhile now but I think he still charges just a dollar a coin. Also need to send a self addressed letter with postage for returning your coin. Will be curious to find out if my N-20 guess is correct!

I reached out to Mr. Grellman via the email address on his old website and haven't heard back from him. I'm leery of just sending the cent through the mail until I know he will process it. Is there another contact for him, another email or phone number?

I've already heard back from Mr. Grellman and he confirms the N-20 variety. He was able to give me that attribution based solely on the photos, so I won't be sending it to him.

Thanks to all who helped out with this. I'm going to record the variety on the holder and put her back to bed!
