Sorry, this website isn't allowing me to post a photo right now. I'm not that good with computers, so if it doesn't happen easily, it doesn't happen. I will try again.

Worn.....or taken off by some other means.....I'd say. Grease Filled Die ?......hmmmmm....dunno about that. I'm guessing that it isn't a "Mint error" in that sense.....IMHO But definately will be watching this thread for other comments....  Edited by eaglefoot

From the pitting that is visable I'm guessing it was taken off with some type of acid .

 ......that seemed like an obvious "spot" for the pitting to be located to me too ! Edited by eaglefoot

could be acid due to that pitting. Of course, one might expect acid to also attack metal hardnesses at different rates--and not altogether remove a date flush to the fields  If I were to guess, I'd say filled die with some post-mint damage thrown in. Edited by KurtS

Thanks to all! All of the comments are insightful! (I guess I won't be retiring in the near future!) It may not be anything special, but I think I'm going to hld on to it!!
