I hadn't been to this place in a while, so I went there today, and to my surprise there was another 1950-D in the exact same case as the other one. It is much, much nicer, though. At least AU, maybe higher, with a very strong golden yellow tone, and "wood-grain" toning on the reverse. The yellow covers 100% of the coin. I was afraid there was a fingerprint on Jefferson's forehead, but I'm pretty sure it's lines from the toning. The best part about this deal though, was the price: $3

I also found a jar of wheaties at another part of the store. I bought one from there before, but this one said there were 614 cents for $27.50, which is about 4.5 cents each. I saw several S mint marks and there was a 1910 in a 2X2 at the top. Most of the grades were g-f. I didn't buy it. Do you think I passed up a good deal?

Nice!

As for the cents, it was a decent deal...depending on the mix, of course.

It's actually not as solid yellow as it looks. Dim lighting, I assume.

Nice 50 D Tex! If I am reading this right, you went back and got the second for $3.00?
Maybe you should ask for a deal on all of them he has. Maybe this seller has extras and just fills in the spots that sell out with another.
Seems there has been a spike in the price of 1950 D nickels in the past year for places like ebay.
Any problem free circulated has been getting around 15 bucks if you included the shipping and the BU Gems are getting 20.00 to 30.00 uncertified.
These sat at 10 to 12 bucks for a couple/few decades.
It's about time.
At one time though, many years ago, these were selling for much higher than they are now.

Not bad for your first try!

There may be some settings you can tweak on your camera, if not you can "correct" it with software.
I would head over to the Coin Photography Forum with these pictures and get some tips from the experts!

Thanks everyone.

This is a small place, like an antique shop, but with some modern stuff too. Mostly home decorating stuff. People who have stuff to sell give this lady a certain % of the profit they make, and she gives them a "spot" or section of the "store." So there is one guy who has two little glass cases with various "antiques" like knives, coins and such. One never changes, but the other one is right at the front and that's the one with the 50 D's I bought. I'll have to check regularly, as what wheezydog said may be true.

By the way, the first 50 D I bought from him was about vg-f and cost $7.50
Also, the actual seller is not there. They set up their stuff and the lady who owns the place sells it for them, for a fee.

Just a little (lot) of clarification:)

Can you please be a little more specific? Like "in North Texas", "South Texas", perhaps a street address and city?

Seriously, cool find and a cool place to find it.

Actually, there is at least one other antique shop a few miles from that one. Both are in the Greenville area (East Texas). I've seen coins in this other place too, but I was afraid to buy because I didn't know very much about them then. Some were slabbed also. I think I'll go in there soon and see what I can find.

Totally unrelated to this topic, I tried to buy some acetone today, but all I could find were quarts and bigger. Anyone know how to get a smaller amount...or do you just buy a quart?

Ha ha ha. I said "still no camera. Hope to get one very soon." Then the very next thing you see is "I got a camera today!"

I would just get the quart. That way you have some around if (when!) you need some. Just keep it up somewhere safe & cool.
