T-Bob, I can see were you are coming from on this topic. I was just giving my thoughts on a hypothetical situation to see if others will respond in the same way I do or other approaches. I don't actually argue that much with the tellers lol

I would take the long view and value the relationship over the coin.

Same topic, similar question. For instance, what if you are in a different city, different bank and it's your lucky day and you spot something in that tellers draw? Just to give another scenario for others to ponder about.

Although I would be disappointed, I would definitely let the teller keep the coin. I would likely offer to share my knowledge about the coin, as well as recommend how they could sell it for the best price. I would follow-up with an offer to buy it. They do not earn much money. The coin is a bonus for them. Let them have their bonus.

No, it's just a coin. If the teller has it, it's not yours. Maybe if you are nice, they will give it to you but realize you are asking the teller to give you something of value for next to nothing (face amount).

You catch more flies with honey ..... I think you will be better off in the long run by keeping a good relationship with the teller.

nice topic.

when I started roll hunting back in oceanside, CA, back in 2010-2012 I remember a teller at a BoA pulled her coin till open and I saw a BUNCH of silver. Now, I was a member of this bank at the time and after she said no, I said " per the banks policy, that is not your money even though you are saving it for later. "
I confirmed this with the branch manager. All monies in the till at the time of customer service, belongs to the bank, i.e. the customer, if they ask. I dont recall if I "won" or not, but I do know that when tellers have money in their till, they cant claim it until the bank or their shift closes and they tender the till.

as a customer, we should be able to by law to take any and all money from a till if we ask. not robbery of course. LOL
