Looks like one of the later die states of RPM-014. Nice find!

Not a match to 014, but very close.

Coop
The comparison looks like the right picture is a little bit high. Can we get a comparison with the right picture where the mintmark falls inside the red lines?
THanks

EDIT: wait.. then the DATE drops too much.. never mind

But if I raised the right image, then the mint mark would still be even further north. It is the one on the left that is too low. The difference between the red and yellow line is how much the image on the left is lower. Do you know what the white lines on these images are for? To make sure the overall size of the date devices are the same size vertically. Then I add the color lines after it is correct on the white lines.

But I would not say that is is not a RPM, just not the 014. I've seen RPMs that are flat. MD can affect one area devices, but I'm not seeing any other area that show the same MD in that area. So this first punching may have been shallow and thus the weaker, flat area in question. But the punch was used just once to create the mintmarks. There may have been several hits used to make it deep, thus some RPMs look larger and smaller than others, as they were not punch as deep/shallow into the dies. Sometimes RPMs are considered a match, but are actually a different die. I've found that in the past on a different die. The locations were very close, but on the new example it was not triple mintmark, but a different triple mintmark. (It may have been this same year) It was sold to me as a certain RPM number, but it wasn't that die number. (I found them) Mine was a new listing, the 027.

So keep it safe. Someday it might be listed. (Or submit it to Wiles?)

Nice comparison images and explanation, as usual, of the use of the white lines for OP's coin.

One question about the thread title though, isn't this a variety, not an error?

I feel it is a variety. Just not a listed one yet.

Mikev, yours is 1MM-014 which is the same one in Coops comparison image (RPM-014), with the lines that didn't quite line up.
Very slight difference between the OP's coin and 1MM-014. But I'm guessing if it gets sent in it might come back as this variety because it's so close.
