Huge congrats! Going to see that more often as the Boomers pass on, heirs have no idea what real money is. Four out of five pay with plastic nowadays. I've done my own experiments with coin and nine out of ten don't know the difference between clad and silver. Why would they need that kind of knowledge?

Fistfulladirt, yep. It's the sad reality unfortunately. Although, I use cash almost everytime when I buy stuff. I very rarely use my debit card.

It's funny too, because I am only 19 years old.

That's a great haul.

My best haul ever was several years back in early December. I went to one of my local banks and asked for a bag of half dollars. When I picked it up, I noticed several silver halves shining in the sun and had a good feeling about it. When I got it home and opened it up, I was pulling 40% Kennedy's out left and right. When I was finished I had $182.50 face value in the 40% halves. Over 1/3 of the bag was silver. I'm guessing some kid got into his parents' collection and cashed it in without having a clue what he was doing.

Best $500 investment I've had.

Younger hunters may not believe it, but back in the late seventies we threw the 40%'ers back. $40 silver at the time but the Hunts wanted as close to .999 as possible. I can remember 2005-6 when boxes were half full of 40% silvers.

That's crazy! I have never had a silver score like this. My biggest silver score was buying 4 holed foreign silver coins for $1 total. Anyways, incredible find and congrats!

I think ethically speaking, probably would have been best to say something to make sure it wasn't stolen property. That's not to say the guy would have confessed to it being stolen, or that all clerks should be able to spot silver vs. clad coins. Morally speaking, it is more of a personal values thing. I would like to think I'd tell the person. Because who knows, if that guy is spending money on pizza rolls he probably is pretty down on his luck and could use the money.

If he knew, maybe he would have wanted more pizza rolls.
