Hello and  ! We'll need photos, but before you get too excited, you should note that cupro-nickel coins like post-1970 Kennedy half-dollars will tone to a brown color under certain conditions, such as when they are buried underground for a few years. It's most likely that your coin is just suffering from environmental damage, but an accurate weight would help us to verify this.

Could the "bronze" coloring just be tarnish, stained? Is it evenly spread? Pics would be great.

There's a remote chance that the coin missed it's cladding of Nickel at the mint ,but would have stuck out like a sore thumb in the hopper .

It is POSSIBLE, but very very unlikely to be missing the clad layer on both sides. Also if it had lost both clad layers the strike would be very weak and the weight would be significantly low so a weight would be even more important than a picture.

While you are figuring how to post photos, also grab a weight of the coin in grams, accurate to at least 0.1g.
If the weight is correct, then it's most likely environmental damage...
