I would say it is a weak D for sure.

That is a super idea! I just found one last week(blank planchet) in a $25 box, along with several oddities. nlp

For sure your not the only one that is a little ticked off with Album manufacturers for putting slots in for coins such as the 22 no D, the 55 Double Die, the 72 Double Die. Then of course we have to have slots for the large and small dates of certain years. This to me is really stupid and forces people to go out looking for a coin that is nothing but an error. And if you really look into it, there are error coins in the Lincoln Cent series for almost every year. I really don't see the reason for this and I suppose companies like Whitman and Dansco will soon add slots for all the RPM's. Eventually a Lincoln Album would be about 5 feet thick with thousands of pages.
One solution I've done is to make what is known as a short set I think they call it. I've acquired a Whitman Cover for albums, ordered many blank pages, ordered the press on letters and numbers and made my own albums. I have one Lincoln Album that has only the Phily and Denver coins so as to avoid the later date proofs. Also, no slots for different sized dates, just one of each. I got that idea at a coin show where a dealer was selling such sets. As he said they are much cheaper to put together and sell much easier.
The same thing could be done with most denominations where they want you to find some odd ball coins for the album. Merc Dimes with 42/41 and 42D/41 are examples also.
Takes a little time but with imagination you could make a Flying Eagle/Indian head/Lincoln Cents and all in one album. I have one like that.
Similarly a Mercury/Roosevelt Dime Album could be made. I have one of those too.
At coin shows I also seen Phily only sets or Denver only sets of many types of coins.
Since these are all your collections you can do what you want.

Actually, I would like an Lincoln album with only the keys, FS#, or major varieties. That's the nice thing about collectors, different strokes for all folks. I can take Just Carl's action and make my own as well.

Great idea Carl. Where did you get the press on letters and numbers? Do you have a picture of one of your albums?

Although the picture is bad, I don't believe that's a 22 plain at all. It doesn't have the characteristics of neither the strong nor the weak reverse no D coins.

I agree, I don't think it is a 22 NO D either, but it does qualify for a weak D and it is going in the hole. Thanks for an expert opinion Badthad.

For the 1955 DDO I inserted a "poor mans double die" and I think I'll follow bmanofnbc's lead with a blank planchet for the 1922 PLAIN. It's a brilliant solution to the problem!

Whitman used to and may still sell such sheets of press on Gold colored numbers and letters. They are the same size as the ones they put in their albums so they match any that you may have. Really easy to use too. They come with several sheets of the numbers and letters and some dates also. They come with a popsicle looking stick. Not sure how much but if I remember the postage was more than the items in this instance. You just lay the sheet on what ever you want to transfer to and rub that number or letter and it goes right to that object. I've also added silly things to the front of my albums like MY BEST SET or things like that. Takes a little time but works great and if you do a good job, looks professional. When I first tried it and at my age many dates were all over the place. I used the 19 and a 82 and then a D and it looked like I was drunk. Probably was. With a little scraping with the same stick they do come off. But otherwise are really permanent. I have cheated in many instances by just labeling with the last parts such as 03. Left off the 19 since just how many Liberty Dimes were made in 1803 or 2003?

Here is another suggestion about those out of possibility coins. If you know programs like photoshop or know someone that does, you know you could make your own 1922 Plain from just about any photo of a cent and in perfect conditon or any grade you want. Then print it out, glue it to a piece of plastic or cardboard and put it into those empty slots. If I knew how to do that I'd do it for sure with my Liberty Head Nickel Albus. All are missing the 1913.

I know there were like 3 dies used for this error. Doesn't the rarest and most expensive 22 Plain have a strong reverse?

I kinda like the the key error holes for some reason. I think it gives me incentive to plug along. I enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Thank you all!
