Most of the modern Irish coins have a very clean design. The harp is very distinctive and elegant and makes every Irish coin in a pile of coins stand out. Some collectors make fun of it - but I find the mother-and-child obverse of the Sacagawea dollar quite appealing. But for sheer elegance - the silver eagle gets my vote.

Sap, I believe that for the reasons you stated, the MTT shouldn't be disqualified. I have added it to the list.

It's funny how subjective these things are... to me, none of the Polish or Russian coins mentioned are as pretty as the 1932-1934 2-5-10Zl (Jadwiga) coins.

OOPS, sorry I missed that part about being struck after 1800. Here is another beauty from Kazakhstan. A 2006 bimetallic 500 Tenge.

That's a fantastic commemorative there Bonedigger! And a slightly more uncommon country as well, tucked away near Russia and the other "-stan" nations.

That was one of the first coins that came to mind.

Here is a very interesting beautiful 1976 -- 20 Crowns from the Turks/Caicos Islands which comes under Canadian control if I'm not mistaken; featuring Queen Victoria.

Quote: Turks/Caicos Islands which comes under Canadian control if I'm not mistaken Not really, but they do have some history... From Wikipedia: Quote: In 1917, Canadian Prime Minister Robert Borden suggested that the Turks and Caicos join Canada, but this suggestion was shot down by British prime minister David Lloyd George. The islands remained a dependency of Jamaica until 1959 Quote: In 1974, Canadian New Democratic Party leader Max Saltsman tried to use his Private Member's Bill to create legislation to annex the islands to Canada, but it didn't pass in the Canadian House of Commons. Quote: In 1979, independence was agreed upon in principle for 1982, but a change in government caused a policy reversal, and they instead approached the Canadian government to discuss a possible union, but at the time the Canadian Government was embroiled in a debate over free trade with the U.S., and little attention was paid to the suggestion.
