I love US coins and am gradually trying to get date / mint sets of the more modern lower denominations, and one of each type for the older and gold coins. I have a handful of modern commemorative half-dollar and dollar coins, but can't imagine ever buying one of the commemorative gold $5 issues: I'd rather spend that sort of money on a classic coin.

Susan B. Anthony is older than she looks. Two thousand years ago she was a Queen of Egypt, her beauty was celebrated throughout the world, and she had a lover named Antony.

Couldn't agree more. Coin lacks dignity and any aesthetic appeal. Worst design in our country's history. If someone offered me one in change, I would ask for something different.

The SBA proof isn't terrible. The. Elmer Fudd/ Franklin .50 cent piece is so much worse!

I don't like Ikes. (obverse) I have just one clad example. That's enough for me. Mind you, some World coin designs are far worse.

I like the $50 gold octagonal Pan-Pacific commemorative. That's not going to happen. I don't think I could bring myself to buy something like that even if I were to find myself somehow a multi multi millionaire.

@ TNG: wrong message. My first thought: 'liberty below the waist?'. I don't think that is what the designer intended.
I don't have $50 Pan Pacific coins either, but, I have had the round and octagonal $50 gold coin pair sitting in the palm of my hand. 4 ounces of gold! This happened at an international public auction view day.

This coin design was only half thought through ? Lol, it's like they cut the picture in half to save space and put the wrong half in

Elmer Fudd/ Ben Franklin .50 cent piece still gives me hives. I may just sell the one I have in a 2x2 flip as I just don't like it. I mean we went from walking liberty to Elmer Fudd? Why?

Quote:I doubt I'll buy the 2007 Little Rock Dollar This coin design was only half thought through ? ...huh? I don't recall coming across this in my Numista check. I'd still say that the sheer pointlessness of the 1785 Bar Cent is hard to beat, but some of the other types mentioned in this thread come surprisingly close.
