No problem, T-Bop. You know I usually don't expound so much, but the great photos really made this an ideal coin to point out those details. Well, maybe I do expound a bit much

64 as well. I say an acetone soak may help it a bit.

Thanks a ton guys! I definitely did not pay MS 64 prices for these, so I'm counting myself ahead! NGC/PCGS candidates do you think? Also thanks to Mox for the nice explanation! Highly informative about specifically where to look!

Well, as with most of my pick ups, this was a bin find. Yup, you heard me right, however, this is NOT what they looked like at the time, the had the worst case of PVC gunk of the last half century, nothing however that couldn't be cured by a short acetone dip! As Grape Collects noted, they could still do with a bit more. The dealer looked at them and said he should charge me more, but didn't. This is a local gold dealer, does less coins-wise, but gets large collections in.

Great job Loruca! As for grading, a MS65 1883NC 5c is $210 PCGS Price guide in 65, while the 1884 is $350 in 64. As for slabbing as ask yourself this? Are you planning to flip them? If so how tight will your margins be. If not what will the grading accomplish?

Definitely include the 84 in your next batch to NGC or PCGS. The 83 no cents is not 66, which is what you would need to make TPG costs count. You really saved a couple great coins from continued destruction.

I'd say 64 easily, 65 would not surprise.
