I was asked to weigh in. I see no evidence of more than one strike. So I would classify it as a broadstrike.

Nice looking error. So are the secondary nose and lips just an effect of the metal flowing outward? Similar to the outer devices that stretch towards the rim, especially the letters on the reverse? (Funny looking design on that "quarter"! ))

The secondary nose and lips are an example of surface film doubling. It's caused by a thin film of lubricant on the die, the planchet, or both. A fairly common effect.

Quote: is there any reeding on the edge left? Nickels don't have reeded edges. It is quarter SIZED not struck on a quarter or on a quarter planchet. (quarter planchet wouldn't have reeded edges either.)
