Gorgeous toning, I think it deserves an NCG star.

Very pretty coin especially if the blackish area is purple. I hadn't given thought to the 'color driving the price' which I can see as spot on.

Thanks Hunter! For context, do you see that blueish purple area at STATES on the reverse? The blackish spot is about the same color, maybe a bit lighter.

Quote: NGC or PCGS are harsher than ANACS on grades. I don't think that's true anymore. Especially with PCGS. Just google "PCGS gradeflation" Even on their own chat board there are people complaining about it. They have found pics in low pop coins that show a coin that used to be a 63 in the old holders. People (unscrupulous dealers) have been cracking them, resubmitting the and getting 64 or 65.

No it absolutely is still true and gradeflation is one of the most over hyped things ever. Grading standards change over time thats it. Everyone of those people complaining grade differently than the generations before them and are just as guilty of what they accuse of happening now. One thing about this hobby is that many in it hate change

Hey all. This just came back from NGC as Unc Details Artificial Toning. I don't agree at all and we'll see if I tag it on my next modern submission.

That's a shame, it looks completely natural to me. Just shows how subjective that call can be.

Thanks Zurie. I planned to do a modern tier submission in a months time, I think I'll crack it and give it another go.

You're kind of wasting your time trying it with NGC, they basically refuse to grade modern toned coins no matter what a lot of the time. Send it to PCGS

GrapeCollects That is some beautiful toning on that Eagle! I have a few toning coins in my collection. I have always been a sucker for rainbow toning.

Thanks craft! I actually just cracked this one and sent it in along with a collection of toned eagles I bought cheaply. It's taking forever to get to PCGS though. I sent it out via registered mail USPS last monday and it still isn't half way across the country. (I'm in DC).
