Quote: what do you speculate is under the 9 in my photos? A small amount of circulation damage and Pareidolia.

Agree it's a circulation mark. It's too low to be related to an S mintmark.

yes, I know what a mint mark is and its usual location. ive seen several mint mark errors that are sometimes in the wrong place usually floating around the date area. but yes, I do understand about mint marks, lol let me post another pic highlighting what I'm seeing in the loop of the first 9 in the date. ..things look much different in real life.

Oh, I see that you're talking about the mark in the 9. Is it raised? If so, maybe a die gouge, but still more likely a hit with displaced metal.

I see what your looking at under the 9, but that's not even the right shape for a D mintmark, which they didn't have in 1909, and definitely not an S mintmark. I agree it's either PSD or a small die gouge.

Based on the photos supplied, I believe I'm seeing PMD--and I looked at each photo carefully. Would love to see the coin in hand but that isn't possible.
You do have a strong V.D.B. on the reverse--nice and distinct. Don't always see them that way. Decent coin.

Either PMD or a die gouge, but not a misplaced mint mark. John1

Nobodies stated the possibility of a dropped letter with circulation wear, so I wont.... I'm on team Spence with this one to CCF

It can't be a 'D' because they didn't start till two years later. Just die damage. Note the line starts inside the top of the '9' and continues SE. Just a die event.

If you look at the nine it looks like it has a couple of gouges in the top part...could they be the parts from the 9 we see in the circle?

Now we can DEFINITELY see it doesn't resemble any mintmark or letter at all. Looks like a possible lamination issue.

not seeing any mint marks. A possible lamination issue as stated above. -CH27
