I think it only rates BN. Strike is a bit soft: look at the feathers. I can see it making MS-64 BN.

AU55 would be my guess from these images.

I know obverse counts more, but I get hung up on the reverse. Specifically the wear on the leaves just to the left of the shield. AU58.

MS-62 to 64 RB is my guess.

Ubiquitius some say ineffable? everywhere and nowhere the MS60 coin. I love this grade. Tired dies on this one especially the obverse with smeared denticles and filled in feather tips. Reverse Sheild is a doozie dull as a butter knife. I like to show this to others with the grade covered half say AU58 the other MS63BN. Interestingly no one has graded it 60 or 61. The coin does have subdued luster both on obverse/reverse and bet if pics brought it out someone would have nailed it. Thanks for the comments.

I had it at AU58RB or MS62RB. it does look like it was dipped in the past with the dull areas on the fields of both sides however not enough to details the coin. I think it would have went higher than 61 if wasn't

I don't agree with the grade given (based on the pictures). I would have gone higher but I don't have the coin in hand. Once a coin is in a slab, I find it harder to grade than raw.

Anyone here have an idea what percentage of mint state coins get graded 61?
Sorry I'm too lazy to look it up myself, just looking for guesses.

Quote: Anyone here have an idea what percentage of mint state coins get graded 61? Coinfacts has 0 graded at MS61 which is pretty funny. Majority are graded 63 and 64 at 109 each under brown. Under RD they start at 63 and under RB they start at 62.

Sorry I'm late - would have guessed 62 or 63.

Ok, now I see my mistake, the title says 1881 but the coin is actually 1883. The population for 1883 are as follows for MS 61, 1 Brown, 1 red brown.

Those green labels are notorious for being undergraded.

sorry, I posted 1881 incorrectly oops. Great comments from everyone I picked this up on ebay for I think 75 bucks? I'm a sucker for MS60 Lincoln's and Indians, to me its a quirky grade but valid, something has to go between 58 and 62. Coinfrog you make me nervous when you overgrade, better start tightening up on me.
