Awesome! It's funny, I've been hoarding FEC's. I have about 20 so far and am putting them as I buy them in an intercept shield Jefferson nickel album because I like the semi loose fit of the coins in there.
I plan to fill that thing eventually.
I love the Flying Eagle cent. Such a beautiful design. Still need an 1856 though!

At first I was kicking myself for not following this thread more closely, and then I realized your last post was over 3 years ago. Remember April 2020? Those were the good old days, huh?

The family history is an interesting part of this collection for the heir too, I'm sure. Her father must have been born around 1917 (died three years ago at 103), so I'm thinking the original collector was born somewhere around 1890. I wonder if Uncle Warbucks inherited some of these himself. Discussion of the coin album is missing in this thread. From images on page 3 I glean that they're in a Wayte Raymond coin board 876A. From this http://goccf.com/t/419080 the Raymond boards didn't start until 1930, when he purchased the design and patent from Martin Luther "ML" Beistle. Poking around I have not been able to definitively date the coin album but it has to be after 1930. I'm not sure if that tells us anything about how or when the collection was put together.

You are welcome jk109e4 - it has certainly been my great pleasure discussing this fine little hoard with everyone here.

Hi kbbpll! Yes...yes...the good ol' days are now not too long ago for sure! As long and drawn out as this topic is my excitement has peaked again as we move forward to what these will grade at and bring in today's market. I did some research on Wayte Raymond boards too, and I concur on these being from the 1930s. Not sure however if that has any bearing on when Uncle D. Warbucks acquired the collection and housed them in these album boards? Some haunting questions about the man are still left to the imagination. My thought is he carefully collected them over time. He was born in 1884 and died in 1954. We know this was not the only set of FE/IH he passionately amassed - I think I did mention that earlier? But, yes there were 3 supposedly exact sets. One given to the present heir's father (a nephew - and the 'Daddy' in the moniker ) and the 2 others given to another nephew and a niece. Our family research and communications indicate that both the other 2 sets no longer exist within the family. All the elders who originally received these sets are long gone - and gone with them is parts of this story that may never be known. Anyways, these were bequeathed before UDW died - so sometime prior to 1954. I can tell you this - his name was Maurice Brooks of Louisville KY. We know he was a confirmed bachelor and sort of a recluse. He and an older brother, Edward, had a mercantile there called Brooks Brothers (LOL)! If anybody who lives in Louisville has any historical information pertinent to all this please contact me. I can find very little info. and most of the immediate family scattered years ago. Still hoping for return replies from a certain relative. It boggles my mind to image how this man managed to collect this - and 3 sets to boot. Also, did he in fact have other coin denominations in his collection? Not as far as we can tell. Examples like the proofs did not come from cash register change gleanings, so he had connections and must have been long ago known to other collectors. Hoping to learn more.
