If it's the slab, it's not a TPG slabbed coin. The slab is a friction fit with a core similar to an NGC core but I can easily open and close it. The color is the result of poor lighting in my office. Thx

Thanks bushface I was going to call off my hunt for one of these but I don't have any reason not to believe you. You know the W mint mark version of this coin is highly desirable, right?

There was another post on this from May 2020.

I believe these do exist.

Condor 101, you still there? What are you seeing on my coin to conclude it's fake? I have taken a video, rotating the coin obv to rev but don't have a YouTube account to post it. If you PM me, I can send it to you. Video taken with an iPhone.

I've been collecting since the 1960's and still learning.

Thx

My opinion it's a fake, and they wouldnt' have caught the reverse change in 2008 and assumed it would have the same reverse of 2007. it's 2020, no authentic Bullion (without Mintmark version has appeared or been acknowledged by the mint, they did admit since 2008 of striking approx. 47,000 Burnished with the W mintmark with a 2007 reverse die.

Why I think Conder101 thinks it's fake is because it's now been established that all 2008 bullion coins (without mintmark) with the 2007 reverse are fakes.

the field behind the stars in the flag look completely wrong also, the coin overall has a speckled look to the surfaces like a sand casting would also.
just a couple observations.

Thanks for the info Big Kingdon. Can you point me to the report that came to this conclusion.

A second question, RDuke 1981 posed one in an NGC slab. The serial number came up when he did the verification. Has, did, NGC make an error and slab a counterfeit (fake) Silver Eagle?

Thx

My opinion Bushface, the one RDuke1981 posted is faked. Obverse with cert number for a 2008 but cert number doesn't have pictures on NGC site, then he posted a picture of the back side of a 2007.

Real Silver eagles in both cases I believe, just two of them used, trying to sell the "bullion coins had reverse of 2007 also!" story. He had 2 post total since april, both on the same day on this thread.

Probably hoping to sucker someone into a scam on here. and give one of the China fakes instead.

it's a common tactic where you can't verify the front and back, there was one posted on NGC forum a while back, when you put the cert# number in, it clearly had the reverse of 2008 in the picture on NGC site, but he posted a different reverse on the forum.

Anyways, it's been 12 years, you'd think it would have been attributed by now if it actually exited and wasn't the counterfeits.

One more thing Bushface, the date was shrunk in 2008 on the front off the coin. it was smaller than the date in your picture. your "8" especially goes from rim to line under the feet, an authentic 2008 should fit in there nicely with plenty of space top and bottom of the 8.

This is probably the biggest giveaway to it being counterfeit. the date is wrong for the year of the coin.

yes, if you are returning it, clearest way to point it out is the date, it's wrong and there is no arguing about that for them,
it's too big compared to an authentic 2008, especially the "8". they can argue soft strike or grainy photo or some such nonsense, but that 8 didn't "grow".
hahahaha! Sorry you got boned, but at least you know now.

Thanks for the help. I pulled out the calipers and the diameter and width are correct. A magnet does not stick but drags, like it should with silver. Pulled out the scale and it's light. Weight is less then 26g.

Thanks again,

Sorry I work weekends, 12 hr shifts and between work and sleep often don't get back here til monday.

To answer you question, it is fake because the date is wrong. Too large and too spread out. The date on these is small, compact and doesn't come close to touching the top edge of the area the date is placed in. Compare yours to the date in the 5th post. The date is correct on that one.

As Big-Kingdom pointed out the thread from May also has that same incorrect style date.

This still leaves us with the question as to whether RDuke1981's coin is real. Unfortunately there is no image on the NGC website.

Although not definitive proof, it does seem strange to me that the pictures of the obverse and the reverse are taken with different backgrounds and different lighting. Would make a lot of sense if the 2 photos are not of the same coin.

No worries. Thought you might have thought I was trolling you. Anyway, I think I've confirmed your assessment. I took the coin out and did all the measurements. Diameter? OK. Thickness? OK. Magnet test? OK. Weight? about 5g light.
Thanks for your help.

Crazy. I'll knock that one off of my cherry-pick list.
