If notgeld (local emergency money) issues are ok here, how about this complete very scarce/rare set from Austria.....only 10 sets issued.
I see not reason to exclude them. Nice set!

Wow...awesome. What was the point of issuing notgeld with only 10 of each denomination?

Hello and thanks for the question. As notgeld started to get issued collectors started to collect. Like with new coins and stamps. Over time more and more notgeld were issued and more and more collectors were drawn to them. The pieces became more detailed and better designed. The paper quality changed in some instances and before long, notgeld was issued predominantly to meet the demands of the collectors. This reached its zenith in 1921. The more variant sets that could be issued, the more the authorities would be able to sell......and fill their coffers. Nowadays, with the passing of over 100 years, some of these issues are extremely rare. Others, not so much. One can often see serial numbers over 1 million, so over a million pieces of that specific note must have been issued.
I am always looking for notes with low serial numbers as they COULD BE scarcer pieces.

I never really thought about collector activity occurring so early on. Very interesting.

Hi @jbuck - remember when we were chatting about all the colourful 'serienscheine'. They were predominantly issued for the collector market.......but they did go into circulation in some instances.
There must have been 'collectors' of things ever since people had houses......and money to make the purchases.

I have to admit, that had slipped my mind! As a refresher, I reviewed your "monster topic." I am still perplexed by what does and does not stick in my memory.

Indeed! I am certain the first cavemen collected the rocks they found interesting.

Oh yes - collectors understand other collectors. Non-collectors probably find us all a bit weird

Not often that this happens - a note with the serial '1' - all the other numbers are accounting numbers.

These 2nd prefixed (continued numbering) series don't get the same respect as the notes which start from 0 again. Great addition!

Here's the 87th note on the 100 Pesos P-171a from the DR & the first signature variation printed in 2001.
Low-#-Banknotes-Under-100

the 1st signature makes up 8% of all the P-171 100 Pesos reported on Numista.

(P-171a was a consolation note after I stalled & missed out on P-167 which was printed by the BABN in 2000 & turns out to be very tough to find)
