well you can just filter that out in the first place not item above a certain price? second it not like everyone just auction something starting at same prices, plus not the same item go take a closer look.

as for place to meet up and trade I don't think there are any place at the moment or maybe even for a month, after that will see how condition are. Would love to meet up with some people and do some trades, however maximum for the moment is about 4 people, with business rough 20 depending on area. :D

I understand you can filter, but I'm saying I see a lot of repeated auctions for inflated starting prices.

They do this to eliminate those people like me filtering 'buy it now'

Anyway ebay is terrible in my opinion and I can't do the old fashion way. This is why I was asking of any other sites you guys use.

There is "Trade Me" in NZ,no connection to ebay,Ebay shut up shop in NZ years ago.
Nice Coins bob up up there every so often but like ebay ,time consuming.

With my strong preference to examine every coin in hand before deciding to buy,
my coin acquisition activities have come to a complete halt.

Even with public auctions I always like to attend the view days.
Quite often, I catch up with my numismatic buddies on these occasions. Doesn't happen just now.

ebay OK for those who are very experienced with it, and honest dealers have to embrace this form of selling much more than they used to, just to keep their businesses afloat.

Because I embrace all forms of numismatics, I can cover much more ground at a coin show, than I ever could on line, but that doesn't happen for me just now, either.
Fortunately, I am in a position to regard my whole collection as very mature, so that there is no need for me to search for any particular item, and I can sit back reasonably happily out of the market, and actively watch from the sidelines.

If you wish to continue on line,
I would suggest that you search the dealer's websites.
To find the dealers (for example),
search;
'coin dealers Melbourne', or 'coin dealers Australia'.

:) sadly dealers have overheads.

Well there isn't much in term of volume compare to ebay, if that's what your asking I believe a lot of the auction house have cut maybe half their businesses since auction come into place, however many have online site just beware they have fees on top of fees.

Sadly yes,but a large proportion of Dealers have only themselves to blame since the Internet started but are adjusting now.The mug punter/buyer is well educated these days, only takes a minute to look up the value of a Coin.

I should have mentioned to the OP that Facebook has many Coin groups,I'm a member of about 6 but rarely buy/sell just mainly read the posts.
Like ebay,FB has a lot of smarties out for the quick $ so extreme buyer beware needed.

Having just started collecting coins I've been looking at ways to purchase bulk world coins as well as some of the recent Oz coins. I agree that most coins on ebay are way overpriced and just get listed over and over (and are all "rare" or "scarce"). I also browse Gumtree but there seems to be a lot of dreamers asking way too much. Facebook marketplace seems a waste of time for coins.
Living in Brisbane it seems all the good deals are interstate. There seem to be no local auction houses that get occasional coins, except the ones that specialize in coins who buy deceased estates and then sort the coins and list separately.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on where to buy loose coins at reasonable prices in Brisbane? Cheers

The Dealer in Southport is still going, has his little shop under his house.
Not sure with Brisbane these Days,so not much help, but a quick Google should throw up who is left.
As I said in a previous post there are plenty of Qld. sellers on the various Face Book Coin groups.

Thanks Basil. Wonder if this is the same dealer on ebay located at Burleigh Waters? Have you dealt with them and recommend them?
Also, can you link some of the FB groups? I could only locate one.
Cheers

Honestly, I rarely buy Australian coins off ebay - I just do it at shows (which is a little difficult now).

As posted earlier, I am not an on-line buyer.

I like to closely examine and personally negotiate the price of what I buy beforehand.
Must have saved $thousands over five decades of coin collecting, with this approach.

Major coin show coming up for me at the end of this month!
Probably masks will still be mandatory, as well as QR coding, but otherwise should be unrestricted.

Had my tetravalent 'flu shot and first CV-19 shot.
As well as my distemper shot (woof!) - (not really).

You could try Shane a Newcastle Coins. He works from home now , so doesn't have huge overheads.
