On heritage, I saw a coin with bad cleaning and some scratches go for 1150. I also saw a few problem coins that looked pretty bad, and a few "non problem" coins that looked cleaned go for more. Why would it knock it down all the way to VG?

And it looks like VG coins are going for close to 1000 anyway.

Check this price link:
http://www.pcgs.com/prices/PriceGui...#043;Quarter

These are retail prices for problem free, PCGS slabbed coins. Since I don't collect this series that's what I'll use for reference. I checked Coin Values earlier and they're a lot lower.

VG10 = $1,000 in PCGS' guide so the price was about right but a ICG VF20 details is not a high grade coin. You should be able to do better, but like I said, I don't know the availability of this series/date.

A Capped Bust quarter in Type 1 lists for $340 in VF20 and for me that seems cheap. It's a nice series and a love all Capped Bust series' but I'd save my $$ for problem free coins.

Good Luck!

Yeah I totally agree with you, it might not be a nice idea for a type set. I wasn't planning to use it for my type set (at least not now) since it doesn't even have a slot for the large size quarters. It's a rare coin though judging by how much I've seen it, and I try not to use the PCGS price guide any more. It's usually low on rarities and high on common dates. Even numismedia which is generally more accurate seems too low given what I've seen.

But you raise a good point. I should probably focus more on completing my type set. I just can't pass up a bargain because in the long run, that does help get me more money for my set.

, problem coins, no matter how rare they are, just seem to stand out too much in a collection for my liking.

Vg money is CW trends of $1500.00 so it may have been okay.

But, I'd rather have a problem free piece.

Don't buy problem coins. They used to body bag them.

Feedback file comments speak volumes about this one. I personally would not buy there.

I have to agree with wheezy, Just looking at the sellers feedback would keep me from bidding on anything they have for sale.

I still would have taken it at that price, but good point on the feedback. Should have looked at toolhaus.

Do you specifically need an 1824, or are you just going for a large dia. bust quarter?

The 1824 is lower mintage and therefor relatively pricey. You might get a nicer coin in a better grade and different date for less money if the date is not an issue.

I bought an 1825/over 4 a couple of years ago in a Strong Fine for much less than this coin. I think it was good to pass - the scratch - I just try to avoid those types of coins. The scratch just draws your eye no matter how nice the rest of the coin.

I just wanted it for the rarity, really. Sometimes I get in that mood : /

I think the price has went up a bit lately, you might have been lucky to get it so cheap, but now that I've had a bit more experience buying, there are definitely better deals out there.

Yes, I was really pleased to get the 1825 quarter - I watched a lot go by before I got it and I do think they have increased in value since I got it based on Numismedia prices.

yeah, if I wanted a relatively uncommon date in high condition, I'd get an 1815, this is $500 in good.
