Thank you for your estimates! I'm now thinking about submitting the coin to NGC or PCGS but the problem is that I live in Germany... does anyone now how it works?

I'm not sure if it works in Germany, but if you are an ANA member let NGC know this, ANA members are allowed to do direct submissions without needing to join their collectors club for an additional fee. At least that is true in the United States, as they are the ANA Official Grading Company. Might save you some serious money on a single submission.

Best to contact them first to see if the ANA deal applies to German submissions.

Today, I've been reading a lot about detecting st gaudens fakes, and then I've studied the coin using x8 magnifying glasses. I found a few spots that are a somewhat suspicious: weak edge lettering (especially the word pluribus, as you can see in the video), potential toolmarks etc....

I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions!

Weakness at the edges of devices is very common on gold pieces, purely due to the soft nature of the metal itself. Without a doubt your coin is genuine.

ok that's nice to hear, but what about the damage between the e and r in liberty? (seconds 16-22 of the video). I have not seen something like that on any other st gaudens double eagle

Here is a quick photo from the old 1980's ANA Counterfeit Detection book used at the Summer Seminars.

1924 St. Gaudens Genuine:

St-Gaudens-Double-Eagle---Fake?

Not all genuine 1924 have this but those that do are probably real.

Stgaudens I can send you a pdf paper on the 1924 showing color photos of known counterfeit die markers, but you have email turned off, send me an email and I will happily shoot you a copy ASAP. Has some good pick up points to check easily for the common counterfeit 1924.

829729,

It has the edge lettering. Don't throw out the "fake" accusation so easily. This coin is genuine.

Looks authentic and brilliant uncirculated. Check the weight if you have any doubts on authenticity. Should be 33.43g. The only reason someone would fake that date is if it were a different metal.

The surface preservation and cartwheel luster are superb! Hard to grade from just a video but my guess is better than 65. Naturally assuming the weight and measurements are correct. That is one beautiful coin!
