I get money from my wife's Aunt each year; I have always set it aside to use for coins. She knows this and thinks it is great.

So, based on a technicality, I chose option "All of the above" since she gives me money for coins, and I spend the money on coins.
Rest in Peace

I've asked for certain coins (I have a close relative in a foreign country) and specific hobby items, but I bet I don't get them. I'll be grateful for whatever I do receive, though. Shoot, I'd be happy with socks and underwear! (Funny/tragic story: I had a grandparent who pretty much lost it in later years, and for several years in a row, my brother and I received underwear sizes 8 and 10 for Christmas from her, clear until the time I was in high school!)

Starting last year I just ask my wife for the current year's clad proof set, it's the only thing she can buy without it becoming too complicated.

Well, I haven't gotten coins for Christmas yet, but I've only just started out with collecting being more than a passing interest.

My uncle travels a lot, and brings back something from wherever he's gone. So far, I've gotten three or four countries

I'm looking for some old English Crowns and Florins, and those marine life/Oceanic countries' coins sound really interesting! Numismatic meeting tomorrow!

I'm buying just for myself. No point buying coins for or expecting coins from anyone else in the family; they just don't "get it".

Condor has nailed it right on the head.....

I answered "all of the above", because usually I buy my own coins at Christmas time. Sometimes, however, my Dad will give me some silver dollars or something.........that's about it though.

In a couple of weeks, this years "present to myself", I will be purchasing a small "batch" from Prethen again !!.....HOORAAY !........(3CN's)
Merry Christmas to me !......wait.....is that selfish ?....nawww....

American Silver Eagle Proofs. I have 1986-1991, so any year after that, especially the 1995 W. I would also take an American Gold Eagle Proof.

We started a new tradition in our family - Since my in-laws never know what to buy me, I told them to get me a 2008 Silver Proof set from the Mint and they did - Hopefully they continue this every year, much better than a sweater or some flashlights.

My wife did a great job this year with getting me a beautiful 3 Cent Nickel as well as a Flying Eagle cent for Christmas.

I have a Dansco "Major US Type" album that she looked through and figured out what I needed.

My wife is too afraid to buy something for me because she thinks that I will already have it. I keep telling her that I do not care if I have two or three of the same coin as long as it is a gift from her. So we settle on me buying so much just before the holidays and letting me have it as an early present from her.

I will not complain this year because I picked up a great starter set for myself of Indian cents from 1879-1909 in an older Whitman folder for about $30. I also surprised her with a Christmas themed silver round that she absolutely loves, so at least I can still pick for her.

I ended up getting a "colorized" Silver Eagle from my girlfriends four year old daughter.....I have to admit it IS attractive. It was very tricky, though, to try to tell her how the "non-painted" ones are actually more desirable for me.
But you know what ? .....I'll treasure this one forever despite the colorization of it's obverse !.....

My New Years Resolution, in part, needs to be to "spread some basic education" about coins to my family, friends, and loved ones, or at least about my particular preferences, so that in the future, if they so desired to make a gift of coins to me.......they'll know what I like !

Nonetheless, I will hold that coin as precious forever though !....

I tell people to get me coins for Christmas or my birthday. In the past I've always got alot of crap that just collected dust! It's paid off and I keep them dusted! :)

Since my family doesn't know what to get me I just ask them to throw all their pennies in a jar for the year and wrap 'em up for me. I have more fun looking through them and collectively I can obtain more cents than by myself alone! Also, they love the fact that at Christmas time they don't have to spend a single dollar on me...it's already there in the jar!

I try to treat everyday like Christmas and am now buying coins for myself as often as possible.

(I deserve it, right?)
