Agree with others, it's a fake. Most likely a 1959 converted into a 58.

Of course it could be a coin made in 1959 with the wrong back.

Quote: Why would someone make/fake a coin like this I wonder? Because if you can convince someone it is a rare pattern or transitional piece you might be able to scam for thou$and$. Like the 1959 Wheatback cent.

Good morning - I was reading your post from 10/18/202. And I wonder what you did with tat 1958 memorial back penny? Because I have 58's that look just like the 8 on yours however they are wheat back. Did you take it to an expert? I would. I m not so quick to call itafake. It's a real Possibility it's real. Thanks for sharing. Krayoncoin...

OK, I finally sent this in to ANACS to get a professional opinion. Came back as 'Not Genuine'. They said it is 2 halves pieced together. I still can't see that, but I'm 73 and my eyes are not great and I don't have a microscope. But at least now I know for sure. Still keeping it though as I think it's pretty cool anyway. Will put it in my Dansco album which has a few blank spots at the end of the Wheatie page. :)

Thanks for the update! Kinda figured it was a machine shop job to begin with.
