I posted about this on the Coinstar link back on March 22, 2019. (I will always remember that fun date.) The coins were jammed up way up the rejection shoot and just kept falling down into the slot as I scooped them out. Here's the link. If it doesn't work right, it's on page 240 of the Coinstar Finds! topic. http://goccf.com/t/128850&whichpage=240

Thanks , I just read it , never saw that post . If I was there watching you I would have laughed my Butt off . Was anyone around looking at you pulling all those coins out ?

I believe the coins left behind in the reject slot are fair game, but I would not recommend trying to pry the machine open to get all the coins.

Fortunately, the Coin Star is sort of hidden off in a corner of the lobby with some shelves around it. I can do my dirty work mostly out of sight.

Coinstar machines are the modern equivalent of pay-phone booths back in my day as a kid: Always check the coin return, because you never know if someone left something behind. Reason being that Coinstar machines cannot process silver coins, or things like foreign coins and tokens. I've found my share of ordinary silvers in them, as well as some really odd foreign stuff.
And best of all, you feel like you score whenever you do find something(s) in the coin return.

Also, if you have a whole mess of junk silver, you're better off sending them off to a commercial refinery (as opposed to those "we buy gold" shops) to have them melted down (it's 100% legal to melt USA coins) and get a nice check in return based on the current spot rate for the actual silver content.
Besides coin collecting, my other geeky-dad hobby is metal detecting. At the end of the season, I'd pack up all my junk silver coins and sterling and gold jewelry pieces that I dug up and be rewarded with a nice fat check that paid the rent on occasion.

If you don't take them, someone else will.

Welcome to the forum! Could you please list the refiner that you use or recommend one, as most will no longer deal directly with the public. Thanks.

Quote: When you hung up Ma Bell expected you to freeze your gluteus maximus waiting in the dead space of the booth for the operator to run you bill and send your change. In my experience you didn't get change back. The only time you would get coins back in the return was if your call didn't go through. For long distance it was a "use it or lose it" proposition. The operator would tell you how much for the first three minutes and you put that in, then they would try and connect you. If there was no answer you got your money back. If they answered the money dropped down into the internal box. If you hung up before the three minutes that was it no difference returned. Likewise if the operator interrupted to request more for the next three minutes you put that in and then it dropped into the internal box and your call continued. If you hung up before the end of the three minutes you lost what ever extra you had put in.

@fistfuladirt: Midwest Refineries. They're in Michigan. Find them on the web using their name followed by dot com, or Google/Bing them..
I have no interest fiancial or otherwise in the company whatsoever, I've been using them for years, and they've always been above board.
