Welcome to CCF. If you don't have a basic book like the Red Book guide to US coins, that's a good place to start. It is 14 bucks on Amazon. You can always post specific questions here. Lots of people willing to help...but please use a little punctuation to help us to be able to understand your questions.

To CCF , Educate yourself first with those books mentioned by CaptainCoffee . To be honest I know from experience that your daughter at 5 years old is not going to take to the hobby like you wish her to . In the mean time just read about coins as much as you can so when she gets a little older you'll be able to teach her slowly . You don't want her to get overwhelmed or she will not understand what you are telling her . The slower you go , the faster you go !

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the advice. Also I don't want my daughter to find the rare coins she has no idea but the bonding time of watching her bust open a roll and flipping them for me and the oh daddy there's a pretty one are more special to me then the coins don't matter price. Just figured would ask how to go about maybe finding something rare. Sorry everyone

Also I do it to save money. I also do it to keep me out of trouble. Also think it's really fun thinking you found the one so I would really like to learn.

You might want to check out the Coin Roll Hunting forum for some ideas of what to look for:

Welcome to the forum and so glad to have you and your daughter collecting.
I love hearing your description of her helping you. That is some really special time together.

Thanks for the punctuation and spaces. It helps me breathe.

She can help you pick out smilies to add to your posts as well. There are some fun ones to choose from. To find the smilies just click on the "Switch To full Reply" button to the bottom right under the reply box.

Baseball welcome. Also the coin roll hunting section would be a great place. Even if you took picture with your daughter and told her ok let's go show them and then read it to her nightly what people were saying. Just an idea ;-)

My daughter and I search quarter rolls for the 2019 and 2020 West Point (W) minted quarters. They are easy to see and fun to search for. My wife thinks we are both crazy.

My daughter is 29 and has a stressful job so the coin searching is relaxing for her. I'm 70+ and going thru coin rolls has been part of my life for well over 60 years. I first started with nickels with my uncle in the late 1950's. I remember getting $20 rolls of Morgan/Peace dollars at the bank in the early 60's and pulling out the best COIN and returning the other 19 back to the bank!

It is great enjoyment for both for both my daughter and I. She will probably inherent most of my collection as she is the only one of my kids that shows any interest. Grandkids could care even less. They are too busy playing video games.

Most of all, enjoy the coin time with your daughter!

Welcome!!

You've already discovered one of the points I repeat over and over, coin collecting is what you (or your daughter) loves and enjoys. If you happen to find something amazing along the way, so be it. But don't go into it trying to get rich.

I love that you include your daughter in your coin hunting!! My Grandfather loved Ikes and Franklins and back in the 80s he formed a deep love in me for them. There are so many beautiful in circulation coins, maybe create a pile of random pocket change and see which ones your daughter is drawn to.

to the CCF. Maybe starting with ATB Quarters in a simple folder. She may find it interesting looking at all the beautiful places represented in the series.

Try using the Search box above. Just enter any topic you'd like to learn more about (say, "1969-S Double Die cent") and read many past threads on this subject, many with pics. This is an endless resource!
