If bidder 9's bids turn out to be legit I'll be very surprised.

Holy spumoni, sold for $104,625 with BP. How did bidder 9 become bidder 8? Then a new bidder 9 sniped them in the last few seconds.

That's outrageous. Great coin, but really? That's $8000 more than a much nicer F15 sold for at HA just a couple months ago. Surely the cherry-pick story that goes along with it didn't add THAT much value. I didn't think it would go much higher than where it sat a few hours before ending.

Curious to see if bidder 9 follows through and if there is any news to follow this one.

Would love to know what the finder sold it to the dealer for. Sounds like he left quite a bit of money on the table.

Maybe it was a lowball collector.

Maybe? If so he/she are still nuts!

If I had that kind of scratch, I'd go ahead and just pony up another $35K for the other one I posted (on page 2), from HLRC in XF45, it's much nicer looking, and now it looks like a bargain compared to this price for a low end example.

Still I'd love either one, a 1792 Half Disme is a bucket list coin behind only a select few for me.

I received yesterday an email message from a long time dedicated lowball collector who lives in Dallas TX who claims to be the purchaser of this coin.

This 50+ year dealer/collector and I have made some deals over the years, so he wrote and let me know of his joy in acquiring this new lowball.

I hesitate to share any of his personal information as I don't have permission to do so. This particular collector has the PCGS registry set #1 copper, silver and nickel type set (lowball). The set is missing only 2 coins, one of which is this Half Disme.

Be on the lookout for it to appear there.

Relative to price, I've always said that the true top pop lowballs break the pricing models - much as the true top pop MS coins do. It's all supply and demand.

Great Collections sold the 1792 Half Disme coin found earlier this year in a dealers junk box for $104,625 including buyers fee. Amazing!

I'd hedge a bet it sat on a printed page with a WH on it. Chemicals from the ink toned the letters into the coin (hence the mirroring). I've seen this on a franklin somewhere on this forum before I think

Good call
