Why are you worried about some slight damage to a few fake BHD's? Now thats not to say I would get out the hacksaw, but some silver acid test maybe...

Not worried in the least and what acid would that be? This piece is very collectible and I'd challenge you or anyone else to find "another like it for sale" oh, lets say in the next month or so. FWIW, it's worth more as a counterfeit than as a genuine piece believe it or not...

Yeah an X-ray is not really practical....unless you've got one @ work PM me if your just dying to know - I don't have standards to test for Silver, but there is an option to test the entire spectrum and then you can figure out what the base elements are.

Really? Since I know little about CBHs, I'd like to better understand why...is this a contemporary counterfeit? If it's just a modern copy from Asia, I cannot see much worth other than a potential educational tool

Cool, never seen or heard of it before -- can you tell me what TYPE of acid that is? Simply 'apple vinegar' or some other household substance. As far as the value yes, it's considered one of the Three Good Counterfeits which have rarely shown up on the internet in recent years. Many consider these akin to the OMEGA Double Eagles.

Value always varies on unusual pieces as to what someone is willing to pay over what another is willing to spend... I've tuned down (over 4X the purchase price) so far from a specialty BHD collector, however, it's not for sale, simply a novelty/collectors item.

Here is the rest of my collection if you've got any questions.

Wow, I knew you were crazy about BHD's but that is simply out of control. I might be wrong, but I think you have passed to point of a 'hobby' and blown right into an 'obsession'. Quite the collection I must say.

No I don't know what that silver test stuff is, I just saw it on that site the other day, and figured everyone know about it...

The only CBH I have (so far) is a 1834 that I got for $90, I talked about it here. https://goccf.com/t/37431 what do you think? Without a doubt you are who I am going to contact about anymore that I buy. There is something about them... If I didn't have my Morgans, I think I could easily catch the BHD fever...

Chuckle, then I'd suppose the same principle would apply to Lincoln Head Cent, Franklin half, Liberty Head (V) Nickel, etc., collectors...

However, my collection pales in comparison to others who have over 400 of the 450+ dates, die varieties, and die states.

Brewzz, it looks genuine and in bettter than VF condition to me, but there is some apparent graffiti on the reverse and the 12:00 ding is pretty noticeable along with the obvious over-dipping it appears VASTLY TOO BRIGHT...

I'd pass on it...

Hey, no problem Hoss. BTW, I noticed you were in San Marcos --- we used to make 3/4 day weekend runs to visit friends attending school there; while attending college (SFASU -1979-1982 -- Nacogdoches) and have frequented some of the clubs there... But sadly, their names elude me now. They were downtown and offered nickel beer in a mason jar, etc., on Friday, Saturday nights.

The river was great as we were then able to go over the rapids and further during "Spring Break." Alas,... as some - I left a beautiful girl there who stirred my heart, etc., but on Sunday we both decided to part ways ASAP, LOL...

They really look great to an untrained eye (mine). Makes me leery about buying any nice coin. Is there a site that has diagnostics for identifying authentic vs. fake coins for any series ?
