They have been delayed. The planchets were not available this month and it may be late winter before you can get one.

The Mint was supposed to begin striking these last month. They're on a special double thick planchet that's 27mm in diameter.

Coin World reported last week that production has been delayed indefinitely. No special planchets yet! This sucks!

They're going to be at least $1k.

They forecast gold to rush to about 900 in the beginning, but then in the mid-year to Aug, it will probably drop due to deflation concerns to about 600.

...but, there's always the problem of the mint and everyone else running out of gold and then early stop-production.

That's why I'm getting one on the first day, just to be sure that I get one.

This is the coin I am most looking forward to in 2009. You have inspired me to write a blog post about this coin. Thanks for the inspiration.

I am definitely getting one! What I don't like is there is no limit to production, they will keep making them as long as the orders come in. I will be on preorder for these once they start taking them.

I'll wait until people start dumping them onto the secondary market and buy one at spot.

Yes, that's what I was hoping to do, HABIB,

but then there's always the problem of no more planchets...

You mean the creation of artificial scarcity to generate interest and create demand for overpriced bullion?

I'll still take my chances on the secondary market. There's a lot of nice-looking gold out there selling at a reasonable premium to spot. If you lose sight of the fact that it's just bullion and fall in love with it, then you do what you gotta do.

(Last month I bought a Turks and Caicos low mintage gold .2896 ounce coin for 10% under spot, so I'll just keep my eye on the bargains, I guess.)

Well, not really artificial. What if demand again is too high and the mint runs out (unless that is artificial)?

But, I bet since production will go throughout the year, I'll wait until Fall to buy one, when seasonally commodities drop...

But what if gold shoots back to $1,000/ounce next fall?

I got a Krugerrand at ~750 during the first gold dip (when there was still supply) and I'm reserving that to sell and then buy a St.
