Looks sort of like tiger maple wood!
Just for kicks what is the weight?

Is the weight normal? If not it might be a strange lamination issue?

I look at the coin and pop-up me something strange:

1937-Wheat-Cent-Improper-Alloy-Mix-

If will be a woody effect which it is roll default due to the poor mix of the alloy, the R and O must has same trajectory of the discolor lines. I doubt the authenticity of the woody effect. Is not for the first time I see counterfeits.

Also the smalls lines like a delamination are strange because do not follows a course of rolling.

I don't know, the line orientation looks correct.
look at the obverse first. The lines run from top right to bottom left.
Now look at the reverse, the lines run from bottom right to top left.

OK now if you flip the reverse from bottom to top, the lines run from top right to bottom left, just like the obverse

It's like a optical illusion. but they run the same for both sides.

The optical colors are superb. I will put the right over flapped to see the brown and yellow do not follow exact.

Me I say what I see and analyze with others know and certified. If this coin come to make analyze my report will be according by my knowledge of this effect from the point the view of metallurgy and metal symptoms in the processes of production of the coins.

The best will be a XRF test.

Silviosi, the angle of the off-color metal is the same on both sides. Your obverse image is slightly rotated. LIBERTY isn't horizontal.

KeepTheChange- Any chance we can get a weight on this one?

Peterpockets55, Yes the angles are same. The thing put me questions it is why not the both sides of the coin has same color? In the "woody effect", which it is a time effect the both sides has same color. In this case for example let take the upper right segment. Lincoln side is yellow (which normally means less copper) and the other side is brown (normal nice toning of the copper).

The weight will show more, but in my opinion is less then normal. The coin show characteristic lines and metal structure for a big delamination.

Probably because the metal flow is not the same on both sides. Close, but not a match. The mixture is not the same all through the planchet.

I agree with you COOP. could be not the same flow or the border of the flow which it is not offen see. This could happened some rare times. Till now I have only 4 to 5 coins like this. The tests was positive on real coins. When I received and pass in laboratory, was this end of wrong mixture of ally, but internal has delamination. why ? because we deal with two different materials: one is rhomboid and the other is cubic. To made a deeper test cost, and I have no idea if it is worth. Before to do those tests is better to have the weight, the thickness also.

In previous post I say that many do woody fake jobs on coins for money. Not new not old. A surface microscopic analysis will say.
