The Flying Eagle cent and early IHCs beg to differ.

True, but with a mere 12% nickel composition? I guess they can join the party, but only if we uninvite the wartime Jefferson issues

Buffalo nickel for me. They will always be partial to me since they were some of my first coins I had when I was young.

Hey, it is what they called them back then (along with white cents).

And our three and five cents "nickels" are only 25%, so really still a minority metal. Sounds better than "mostly coppers" I guess.

Come on guys I'm sure the OP was only referring to Five Cent Pieces . Not the Three Cent Nickels .

You're probably right, just trying to stand up for the little forgotten nickel that never seems to fit in.

I'll have to go with the Shield nickel as the best then, at least as far as 5CN go. With all of the repunched dates and striking issues the mint had, I think that's a really fun series to get into.

I'm with Jbuck! I picked the Shield nickel just for all the neat varieties they can have. The 3CN would be 1st actually if they were on the list. I like Longacre designs of the federal shield designs the best.

Some of the 5 cent patterns are really neat as well.

I guess my choice should be obvious. This is my nearly complete set of 1938-1964 Jefferson proofs

I picked the "Buffalo" nickel as my favorite. And I say it's ok to say "Buffalo" instead of "Bison". The "Mercury" dime isn't a depiction of Mercury either. Just saying.

Well, seeing even James Earl Fraser actually called it a " Buffalo nickel" I'd stick with that. I've yet to find a Bison collectors album - but I keep looking
