My bad; I should have read the original post more carefully.
With the large size of the medals, the high relief, and the high standards to which these medals will be required to be, .999 silver is a better material from which these will be struck. Multiple (I guess4 ?) strikes will be needed for each medal. That means 40,000 strikes for the medal die pair, which would be about their limit. Perhaps that helps to explain why 10,000 will be struck.

My fiance's son is a Lieutenant Commander in the Coast Guard (the equivalent of a Major in the Army), so I'll be getting this for him. The Air Force medal recently released sold out their 10,000 allotment pretty quickly.

Perhaps the limit should be increased to 20,000 by the production of another working die pair. The demand for them certainly seems to be there.

I bought this medal the day it went on sale—my dad is a proud Coast Guard veteran.
It's still listed as PROCESSING. Perhaps they'll ship it one day.

Yeah. I reached out to the mint today... Was told there are delays. That's all they'll say.
So I wait....

The funny thing is I worked directly across the street from the Philadelphia Mint! Can't I just.. like.. knock on the door?

Ha. It's currently closed because of Covid. Otherwise I would.

I ordered one for my father-in-law CG vet within the first 2 minutes on day of release. It landed on my doorstep (literally...UPS left it there) less than an hour ago.

NOW they're accusing me of disputing charges from the US Mint on my credit card and claiming that's why there is a hold. Never once have I disputed a charge with them. This is ridiculous. It also makes me VERY fearful for my Peace & Morgan orders!

It took a lot longer than the Air Force coin, but this one is now unavailable (as of earlier this week.)
I find it hard to believe that the 1oz versions of this and Air Force will still arrive this year, but we'll see.

I have doubts about the 1 ounce also. They currently have nothing scheduled for December. Maybe a month long office party.
