I've been calling it EF all my life. Why change now?

I suppose XF makes sense on a phonetic level "Xtra Fine", but at the end of the day it doesn't really make that much difference I shouldn't think. EF/XF it's all the same difference.

Actually, ANACS uses EF. I know that NGC uses XF and I can't remember what PCGS uses. I prefer EF.

Over all my collecting years, I have come across and read so much about gradings, abbreviations, standards etc....the best light hearted one is this one adapted from the "Letters, we get" from Volume 6 Issue No 7 of the CAB (The Australasian Coins & Banknotes Magazine)that I would like to share with members who do not subscribe to this great magazine....

Light Hearted Australian Standards

Not worth a brass Razoo

Meaning worse than "crook"...

Crook

Meaning real lousy (AG3).Poor.

Not Bad

Meaning not good..

Orright

Meaning Good (VG 8).

Bonza

Meaning pretty good...(Fine).

Grouse

Meaning real good (Very Fine).

Extra Grouse

Meaning extra good...(extra fine).

Bewdy Orright

Meaning excellent...(aUNC)

Little Ripper

Meaning - seen nothing better (B.Unc)

Watta-Ripper

Meaning sure it is real (Proof).

It would appear that in my neck of the woods all my coin friends say XF.Perhaps it is a regional thing as I always used XF and so did my dad: who collected coins back in the 1950 to 1970's. Any ideas?

I always use XF, only to be consistent. In order to remain consistent, lots of times I have to go back to some of my earlier work to remind myself of which I'm using, XF or EF.

Guess forgetfulness comes with advancing age!

For some reason I was not allowed the opportunity to vote ? before I replied,,

Anyway, I use EF most of the time when writing the term, but there are times when verbally I will say XF.

Since the french ebay calls virtually everything Superbe I do not see or use EF much
Belgian typing uses the AZERTY format and not the QWERTY so EF is easier to type then XF

Being a native speaker of English with some education, I am convinced that both EXTRA and EXTREMELY start with an "E". Being further, a person who is a former English teacher, and a poet with a real book, I am a great lover of our language, and I hate trends such as "Lite" for light and XTRA for Extra, etc. So, EF.

But then again, I would rather have a EF45 over a XF40.

The point is, call it what you want but for me, I need the number...especially when you are dealing with TPG graded coins.

Let's see, you have BU, GEM BU, GEM BU Plus, GEM BU Supreme, etc. Just like when you buy gas and they call a "grade" Super Premium Plus...I skip all of that and look if it is 91, 92, or 93 octane.

Maybe it is impersonal, but it makes it all easier to me.
