ratio411: Right on, brother! I'd hang onto rat droppings if they had "cc" stamped on them!

, anything with the CC mint mark on it has at least some value.

This is a purely subjective question, and my purely subjective answer is, "I'd appreciate that coin in my collection as much as a Mint State example, but for different reasons."
Your coin is worn just about as completely as it can be, while remaining readable. I would contend that it's more difficult to find in that condition than it would be to find in Mint State.
Go try to find a P01 Morgan. You'll see what I mean.

Quote: I think this takes the prize for lowest grade Carson City coin I've ever seen. I dunno... This one would give it a run for it's money! The original thread on this one, the ownerdidn't even realize it was a CC!

Am I missing something here? It appears to me that the mint mark is above the wreath, below the "One Dime"... In 1875 the mint mark was below the wreath, just between it and the rim of the coin. Right where the 'vandalism' is on this one. Am I seeing things?
If I am not seeing things, then wouldn't that mean that 1875 is incorrect for date of this coin?

I deleted my original post b/c I thought you were talking about the coin you posted then thought you were talking about the top coin originally posted. so to clear this up for me which one are you talking about?

It's a FR2. I would sell one like this for about $3.

Sorry! I was so excited, I forgot to specify that I was referring to the original coin in this post.

So then all this begs the question... Was the mint mark placed differently in 1875 than in 1876? I have seen 1850s dimes with the mint mark above the wreath. Was 1875 the last year for this placement? My 1877 has the CC below the wreath like the 1876 I posted a pic of. (Not my 76. Belongs to a member here.)

i think that in this case the mintmark below the wreath is a little more valuable than above

Something like this, I might be tempted to use as a ball marker for golf. I always like to surpise my playing partners with the different coins I use to mark by ball.

Or you could collect up a couple dozen silver coins in this condition, then an equal amount of copper in this condition, then use them for playing checkers.
