Amazing error! Quite a large one.

So the weight is basically normal. So it was a struck through debris, that fell off the coin after the strike. The other .07 grams is just coin wear/tolerance. If it were a lamination issue the coin would be even lighter than normal. So it is a struck through debris.

I always like to help others to confirm a statement. Thus the question about weight? (In case it was a lamination) Weights can change my mind on a coin.

Wow that's a major strike through! Very cool find, congrats! I'd be quite happy to find an error this obvious and likely scarce CRH.

@coinhunter27 Thanks! I am loving this collection dump I stumbled onto. The guy apparently had been hoarding pre-1964 nickels and dumped $80 of them at my local bank, saying to the teller that "they aren't worth anything." So far, I've found a really excellent doubled die (1964 DDO-007) and this, which is probably the best error coin I've ever found coin roll hunting (in addition to filling up most of the common and somewhat scarce dates in the CRH nickel album I just started last week)

Wow that's a fantastic find Sam! I went to the bank today and picked up a few CWRs (taking advantage of the two weeks I have in the States), I plan to open them tomorrow.
I can only hope for such a find! Once again bravo!

Hey SilverCents! Long time no see! Great to have you in the states for a bit and hope you find some awesome stuff while you're here. Will you be able to take a box or some rolls back with you to tide yourself over?
Thanks Oldfordman! Yeah, same here. I was totally shocked that this could have been in circulation for so long and then in someone's hoard without anyone noticing the error and pulling it.

Nice one, kind of has a struck through cloth effect.

I don't have a lot of free time as I'm spending the next two weeks traveling the West Coast, but hopefully I'll be able to take a look at those rolls. I probably won't be able to take much back however because of the weight limit. But hey, that's life. I've got some other coins to investigate still back in Oman. Once again, glad to see you posting!
