Spectacular coin! One question though, is LIBERTY weak or is that just because of the angle or the plastic on the holder or something like that?

Well Thanks, the compliments go to the coin, not me. Hate the coin!  PS: I know you are just kiddin LOL The Liberty is weak pretty much the whole top half is faded away into the field. Heres a couple other images of it.   I do think this is possibly an AU coin. The 1913 D Type 2 I will show soon is a great companion. I just want to set up here for the camera next week for some of these better Jeffersons and the other Buffs I have around. Guess we'll be eating on TV trays til February or March ... again Edited by TNG

So I stumble into this thread that I had avoided because I don't like to look at coins that are (generally) incredibly worn out...to see... WHAT A COIN! |

Yowee! Beautiful coin! I hope you're kidding about leaving those coins on that table for any great length of time...unless you have an around the clock guard on them!

I am an around the clock guard, this place is locked up tight and ADT is on the job too. If all else fails, there's other means of deterrent to unwanted dinner guests. We are having Bison Burgers with the Jefferson's next week. C'mon over. George and Wheezy are movin on up. You guys are funny.  I think I'll post the 1913 D TY 2 tonight, my 1913 is supposedly a double profile but I dunno. Is there is such a variety. I already suspect it is Machine Doubling. Being a Buffalo collector, let me start by saying this is a great looking 13-S Type 2. The photos make it a little tough to tell but I do not see any evidence of wear in the normal spots like the shoulder blade and hip bone on the reverse and the cheek of the Indian. The weakness in LIBERTY is commonplace: Lange's Complete Guide to Buffalo's (highly recommended) says the strike on the 1913S Type 2 is usually worse than the Type 1 and such weakness "is most evident in the legend LIBERTY and the date." So I wouldn't be too concerned about the LIBERTY blending. It also looks weakly struck on the front left leg and on the head left of the horn (a very common location for weakness in strike). It has a great strike in other places, however, like the tail and shoulderblade. I have a slabbed NGC MS66 of this issue that is one of my prize possessions (I will try to attach photos) but I think yours has the potential to be a nicer coin from the beautiful toning and the granularity. If you are considering submitting this to PCGS or NGC, the toning on the reverse at 9 o'clock may be an issue -- again hard to tell because of the photo sheen. If you don't have a need to slab it, then you don't need to worry about it. This is a great coin. Enjoy and I look forward to more photos. I feel like Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble now, members of the Loyal Order.  ( even though they were water buffalo's ) I like your coin images and enjoyed looking at the images you added. That is very informative about the weakness being par for the course on LIBERTY. I have a handful of nice ones here. I would say that the 13 S being the most valuable of the herd. So there was an educational value to my being a show off as well. I will probably catalogue and photograph the Buffs first and they will be all available to view in my gallery in the next couple weeks. My Jefferson's are going to take a year to get set up on a spreadsheet and photographed so I might as well get the much smaller collection done and stowed away first. I have never sent a coin to PCGS or any others. I think I would maybe hand carry this one to a coin show and get it done in person if that is possible. I just don't know? It makes me nervous sending any coins out to be graded. I also think we will get a better consensus when I take a better direct image of these out of the holders in the near future. I enjoy the compliments, but they go to the coin itself, I didn't mint it. LOL! Edited by TNG

Damn, makes my VG-8 look much worse that it really is. In AU the cost must be approaching $800. Congratulations on a great addition of a key Buffalo.
