This coin looks like it was in an egg carton during a housefire. Oddball, but interesting nontheless. I wouldn't ever pay extra for toning unless it was insanely spectacular.

Toning looks artificial to me. Might possibly be corrosion from really poor storage conditions in which case it could qualify as environmental damage (ED) rather than AT.

Not really your question but IMO this common-date coin has poor eye appeal and is worth little more than bullion value.

Thanks for all the additional ideas about the source of the toning! Appreciate the input a lot!

I like the toning. Personally I like toning in general but I won't pay extra for it.
I wouldn't be surprised either way about AT or not but it is suspicious the dealer had a whole roll of similar toned dollars.

Looks like it may have some environmental damage. I'd steer away from this one.

It is a result from rapid intentional toning and most definitely not market acceptable...

Well I'd prefer to do this via dm so that we don't hijack this thread. With that said, there have been multiple complaints relating to your comments. None of us have to like everyone's coins, but please consider smoothing over the rough edges in your replies. Thx.

The OP's coin does not appeal to me at all. Then again, my toned Peace dollar may not appeal to others but I like it.

Anyone can tell me how ugly my coin is, and it won't hurt my feelings.

Spence - hurtful to hear that I am offending people. I wish Mods would contact me directly about complaints rather than scold me like this in public . Really sorry if I have upset anyone.

I think this coin looks real. I don't think it is fake. I have seen coins tone this way in rolls. My personal opinion is that it is absolutly stunning. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I would think it's AT. Such an oddly toned coin, it just doesn't look natural to me. That said, each his own on what one collects so enjoy it none the less.
