Wow...no wonder I'm struggling to figure this out! Thanks for taking so much to straighten me out! Since re-entering the hobby, I've been digging through moving boxes that contained my collecion and finding bits and pieces I forgot about. This 2000 P Eagle was one of them. So when I saw both W and P 2000's on ebay I tried to figure out how I got the P and not the W. (Sill not sure I understand that part). So, then I thought I'd try to fill in the gaps between my 2000 and the cureent 2008. I quickly found out that I'm late to the party on getting a 2008 from the mint. And, it's pricey pretty quick when buying on ebay or a dealer. (I see that 2008 UNC's are available, but for some reason I'm hooked on Proof's. Maybe I shouldn't be so snooty and take what I can get.) I guess I really should pause and try to figure out some kind of focus within this hobby. Am I trying to fill in the blanks on my Proof Sets. Should I fill in the blanks on these Bullion coins. Or maybe fill up some cardboard albums with general circulation coins. I fear that my coin hobby might be like the rest of my life...jack of all trades and master of none!

in 2000 the W mint mark would have been the proof version the P version would have been the Uncirculated version

Bryan1315 - not to be argumentative since I'm so new here, but the box containing my 2000 (I assume it's a P since it has no mint mark at all) says "Proof". And, I can find ad's on ebay and on various Coin site's that sell both West Point and Philadelphia Proofs. (They sell UNC. from Philadelphia too.)

Philadelphia did not make proof silver eagles in 2000.

Well, if Philadelphia didn't make a Proof Silver eagle in 2000, what do have? I'm not home right so I can't re-check, but the box absolutely says Proof 1oz. Silver, etc. It's in a little plush jewelry box. And, when last I looked at it I couldn't find a mint mark so I "assumed" it's a P. Obviously I need to examine it more carefully. That said, take a look at this ebay auction. They have a PCGF Certified 2000-p Proof American Eagle. This is the auction number 160310363209.

I have a 2000 proof silver eagle graded by PCGS. They identified the coin simply as "2000" on th label, with no mint mentioned. As far as I know there is no mint mark.

I know I'm confused :)
The pcgs price guide lists 2000-P as a proof. There are plenty of pics of coins on teletrade.com in past auctions that have a "P" mint mark, and are slabbed as proofs. It looks like the proofs started at West Point in 2001.

Oh, and if there is a "P" mint mark on your coin, it would be on the reverse. On the bottom left, between the "E" in "FINE" and the eagle.

Your right, Mea Culpa. All this time I thought they switched all of the silver eagle production to West Point in 2000. Looks like I was wrong, as is the 2006 RedBook That I checked my "facts" in. They also list the 2000 proof as coming from West Point. I wonder if they had that error in other editions as well.

Conder, both the 2004 and 2008 Redbooks list it correctly. So someone fell down on the job when publishing the 2006. Kinda weird.

Just to finish this off. I've returned home and mine is a "P" mint mark too.
