I love the look of proof coins....and when push comes to shove collectors collect what brings pleasure to them...plain and simple.
Its the dealers I would think that would primarily scrutinize the items for the potential short or long term investment.

Gawd0ws if you are referring to my 100$ Gold Coin, its actully 14kt, so no its not a .9999 pure gold, but eventually id like to have one, and yes the mask is very nice, the design on it is amazing:)

Check this coin out:

Almost 200 years old, likely only a few hundred remaining in existence, and despite the age, the workmanship is better than most modern coins and it has historical significance:

The cost? About $50 (or less?) if remember right.

Nice coins , I agree with Glen on 2 points they currently are not appreciating and he is right you can get pretty good deals on e-bay and at some dealers for a lot less than issue. I collect the 100$ gold pieces and got most of those for the gold value, 30 different pieces and a few doubles. I like them and at least feel good that I'm in for the bullion value. If you can buy close to the value it makes a great collection and who knows if coin collecting picks up the momentum, their low mintage may become a nice premium.

Very nice gawd, did you get it right from the mint?
5 days for delivery is a good turn around.
The more I look at it, the more I'm thinking about getting myself one as well.

I would have got it from the mint, though shipping was $8.... So I got it at colonial acres, with free shipping. The free shipping offer expires tomorrow at 12pm, so place your order quickly.
Funny thing though, the day after I ordered it, I got a "$10 off your next phone order" brochure mailed from the mint. I'm not a part of any special mailing lists, or customer appreciation program, the only thing I have ever ordered from the mint was the 400th anniversary toonie with a silver medallion for $12.95. So if you have ever ordered anything from the mint, you should check your mail.
