Out of my price range. I would not be able to buy coins for 3-4 years if bought something Ike that.

I have my complete set of Ikes with all the type 1, 2, 3, blue envelope, brown box, bicentennial type 1, 2, peg leg and friendly eagle. Did I miss any? if so, I'm not quite complete.

I actually collect them because I like the design :)

Shhh! Don't say that too loudly. There are many here that would vehemently disagree. (And that's OK.) I agree with you. I consider the design quintessential mid-century America. The great WW2 general and post-war president, backed with the insignia from the crowning technological achievement of the era. It's a design of its time.

That's a very nice set, in my opinion. Congrats on pulling it together.

If so inclined, you can always go down the Ike rabbit hole and seek out the die clashes, doubled dies a few RPMs and the various peggers. But beware!

Excellent! Sounds like you're ahead of me, but I am caught up in searching for varieties, die events and other such things in the series.

What Ikes are you still needing?

Hi Cladboy,
I don't collect varieties, but I have ended up with varieties I and II of the 1972 Philadelphia coin. The only 2 I need now are the 1973D and 1973S.

I think this is my favourite...

I don't think I am ready for that yet

But, I change my mind quite a bit when it comes to collecting coins. I'm not satisficed until a collection is complete. You know a little OCD

I have been collecting Ikes for over 40 years and I am not ready, either!

Then what are you waiting for? There is no time like today to buy a nice Ike. Prices of the 1973-D and 1973S are very reasonable in mid-to-high MS condition.

I'm not in any hurry, I have been working on completing other sets. It's not the cost of the coin so much, but postage that is double that amount. :) I'll get them eventually.

In my view Ikes are probably how collectors viewed Franklin half dollars in the late 1960's - mixed feeling about the design and considered somewhat common with a few exceptions. The difference is the quality of Ike coins was inferior to Franklins so Ikes as the one shown 1974S will do well ion the future - clad or silver clad. Please the mintages while in the common weren't enormous as they have been for the dime, nickel, cent, and, often, quarter since the mid 1960's.

If you enjoy Ikes then go for it. A great area for collectors at all levels and the Ike offers some nice varieties to explore as one advances.

AS for myself, I just have one Ike, one of my few graded coins, and I enjoy it. But my preference is for WLB, AI dollars and some other coin series.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful coin.
