Quote:
If someone has a cheaper mint 50c, obtain the 3D rendering and correct the image using these excellent (?) pictures as template. Create a 3D negative image and then print it. Using this "die" create a gypsum die; from it, a working die. Then melt the cheaper 50c to get a "legit" planchet and strike a brand new 1921.

Although perhaps not using your methods, it's already been done:

Some experts know most if not all 50c in existence. I already witness one expert identifying a forgery by some minutiae that, even being shown, I cannot identify in other coins. I described a method that could (? triple question mark) fool one or another of the experts.

I am a mere twoonie guy. Not an expert by any stretch. Would something like that fool me? I don't know.

At any rate, I am trying to find a reason for someone deciding to pay 400 bucks for run-of-the-mill pictures of a coin . other than sheer foolishness.

My bet is that the guy didn't realize it was a photo. I mean, we've all been burned by ebay and most of the time it's our own fault.

I, for example, have two mint-state (easily Sheldon 65) 1939 rupees in my position... a key date no less! I was able to pick them up from a guy who seemed sort of clueless for a mere $500, well below market value. Gosh did I think I was clever. The only problem is that they are clearly fakes. I mean...they are made of effing plastic and coated with some convincing shiny stuff.

Buyer beware. All that glitters is not...etc..etc....

I particularly like how the description says condition: "Very nice"!

If someone thinks this listing is for an actual coin, then I have to worry about that person's ability to comprehend what their eyes see.

Title and description both read: "Canada 50C Fifty Cent 1921 Coin Pictures Obverse and Reverse 8" X 10"

I paid less for a nice, signed Robert Bateman print.

He did so well on that one, he is giving the losing bidders another chance.
Thing is, he is not doing anything wrong, he is describing exactly the buyer is getting.

Thanks for the heads up. Now I wonder is it the same photo because the winner of the last one never paid up, or if it's a new photo he printed out with the same image.

No, it shows that the first one actually sold. Here's the "sold" link

Does sold mean sold and money has been sent? I have bough items on auction and one and the link is taken down saying "sold" before the item was actually paid for. Since when you win an auction or purchase the item is no longer visible for sale and says sold does not mean that the buyer has been paid.

Someone won the auction but that just means it sold, it does not mean that the buyer actually paid for the item.

I find the St Catharines area to be filled with plenty of pickers and flea marketers who have easy access to visitors who come to the Toronto to Niagara area.

All that being said maybe it comes in a 24k frame, delivered by Brinks

Those of you who missed out on those photos: don't despair! I used to photograph lots of rare Canadian material when I was at the Bank of Canada. Being a reasonable person, I could probably come up with a nice pair of 1921 50c photos for, say, $50 (with free shipping!). At my age I only have so much energy, though, so my offer must be limited to the first 50 takers. Now, who'll be first? Okie, what about you?

No thanks, Hax. I don't do "bright and shiny".

I can't believe someone paid 400 dollars for that piece of paper
