I prefer Dansco as well. Very nice quality and eye appeal to them :0

And if you are like most of us, you will have your really nice coins in a Dansco, then your next grade down in a folder, next grade down in another folder...etc etc :)

My rule is: Best coins in Airtites (3 ring binder), next best in Dansco, next best folders (mainly for gifts at some point).

My personal choice is Dansco.

I agree with what Becky said, there are no rules. Store your coins in a way that makes you happy.

I'm a Whitman person. I have no Dansco albums at all and at one time I had numerous different brands of album. True that Dansco is becoming the most popular amonst coin collectors. And there are many others available also.
Dansco is supposed to be better constructed. The covers have a much more prestigeous appearance. Same with the pages. Information on the pages stands out well. Accessories such as additional pages are more difficult to acquire though.
However, since I've been collecting for over 60 years now and at the time I started there was only Whitman so I've always had them. I've heard horror stories about Whitman that their items are made in China but assembled here but not sure if that is true. What I like about Whitman though is the advantage of purchasing additional pages of every type coin, blank pages, blank covers, press on Gold letters/numbers and almost anything else almost everywhere.
And too if you do not display your albums then the appearance factor is of no concern with the Dansco.
Regardless of which you decide on, do NOT purchase folders for coins. Only use the Albums.

Also, note that due to the colors of Albums, some coins just don't look good. For example a brownish coin in a brownish page in a brownish album just has no appeal to me. And if the coins start to turn Green, then they really clash with the brown albums.

I agree with the majority here and love the Dansco albums. I do like to be consistent and store all of my collections in the same type of albums and Dansco makes a choice for me.

I have to disagree!

Well, except the part about the gold letters and numbers...

Extra Binders and Pages for both Dansco and Whitman are available at Wizard Coin Supply and many other dealers.

Welcome to the Dansco Album forum! j/k

Whatever you choose, if you don't want those BU's toning on you, you'll need to protect the environmemt in which the albums are stored. Easiest is a plastic tub with that dissectant (spelling?) stuff.

Sacagawea's tone like nobody's business. And it ain't necessarily real purty. I had mine in a Dansco album on a bookshelf. Only took about 18 months for them to start turning brown.

Not sure what you disagree with. I have been able to acquire anything in Whitman either at coin shops, coin shows or on the Whitman web site. And if not shown, I contact Dennis Tucker, Publisher at Whitman for more information.
I really like those blank pages and with those presson letters and numbers I've been able to make my own albums the way I want them. For example a Liberty Head/Mercury Dime Album continuous dates and many others. Would have made a Flying Eagle/Indian Head/Lincoln Cent album but no binder was big enough. Working on that too though. Blank album cover, cut open, long binder posts, maybe.

One more thing about Dansco vs Whitman for availability. You must remember that Whitman is basically a Mid West organization where as Dansco is basically a California based company. This does mean that one is more prevelant than another in certain area the avaiability of merchandise is more common in those areas. For example there are many coin stores in the Chicago area that only carry Whitman.

I was disagreeing that only the Whitman as this advantage, because Dansco has it as well (expect for the press on letters). But mostly I was just messing with you.

The irony is that I bought my first Dansco albums in the Chicago area in 1984!

For the record, the coin dealers near me carry both. The "hobby stores" only have the Whitman.
