Agree--buyer beware. It's the free market place, warts and all.

Now if an online auction business was run out of Pyongyang, there might be some harsh consequences.

Buyer beware, is the old saying

Now if you're a seller on ebay, you could put up for sale the same type coin and within the description state that this is a very common coin and not worth ___.(said amount)

I recall a CCF member doing something similar.

Otherwise....OH Well

Whenever I run a search of sold items I don't see any sold at high price levels. Don't stress yourself over these things.

I have many times "watched" an overpriced ebay item sit for 2-3 years because it was listed too high. There have been a few times that after a while I have contacted the seller with benchmarks and they have accepted my market appropriate offer. Just let it sit there and carry on.

There seems to be a new selling trend on ebay where a seller will post a Buy it Now coin at an unreasonably high price, then wait for people to add it to their Watch List (usually out of curiosity). The seller then sends out a small discount offer to the Watchers, hoping someone will bite.

Here is yet another seller who wants you to believe he has a Cheerios pattern Sacagawea dollar, but this guy is threatening to smash the coin with a hammer if no one buys his treasure.

The auction is titled: Sacagawea dollar Cheerios 2000 P/ crazy baby/ Error coin

The description states: "The tail has been worn down but the other markers looks like one. It has a strike on the baby that makes it a crazy baby. I will beat it with a hammer before I let it go for less then 10 thousand. I am about to destroy it all."

The Sacagawea dollar has been reported.
You cannot ask over $2500.00 for a raw coin on ebay.

Sometimes sellers will ask a ridiculous amount for a coin to draw attention to there other listings.
They don't really expect the coin to sell for that amount. In this case it has probably brought
quit a few viewers from this site alone who would not have normally seen what he has for sale.

JimmyD, thanks for reporting this auction and getting it removed.

Unfortunately, the seller re-posted the coin and recommends that you "Do your research before you open your pie hole so you do not have to look like a fool. I will not take less then 50 grand for this so if you do not have the coin go play some place else and I will be looking for ebay expert who had my coin pulled from a action and I will ruin him."

The auction's new title is: 2000 P Sacagawea / Bad Baby/DDO / very very very very very rare.

His new description states: "Hello Buyers.
Sorry that ebay pulled my coin off the auction without even reviewing it with me and calling my coin a fake because some people only know how to look at one pic they have seen on a porn site and believe it is true.
This is not a replica coin and I will let you judge on what it is and you can go from there.
There is a re punch ot the ss at the babys lower chin and one in the eye and fore head.
this has created a coin that when held into the light can show changes that are grand.
You judge yourself. Now as far as a cheerios coin goes this coin is badly worn and that is why you have to look at the other markers that tell what this coin is and if you pull up the book and even have a clue what to look for then just some tail feathers the I can assure you will find you are not the coin guy you thought you were and just another fool that looks at pictures and have never held a real coin."

Been reported again for raw coin over $2500.00
If it was certified by one of the major TPG's, he could ask whatever he wants.

Don't worry about that, it's not the first time and doubt if
it will be the last time either.

This is Pandora's box here.

Yes selling overpriced crap is bad ethically, but if there really are people dumb enough to buy it - well too bad. I mean if some snowflake complains that some disabled or impaired person spends their $50k life savings a HH 1988 Australia $2 coin or a 1971 British new penny as some clown thinks its a rare one of a kind thing - then where was that person when the disabled person was buying it.

Sorry this wokeness and overtly PC lets save them from their own stupidity attitude needs to end. It's time to take responsibilty for your actions. If you know its a scam, ignore it and the seller. Why waste time reporting them, ebay dosen't care because its just another success fee to them. Even worse is the scammer will likely insult you or worse.

People: ebay are there to make money, not be the social conscience of the economic world. The protection they offer against scam and fraud is more for ticking boxes than any genuine concern for people getting scammed.

As for trying to stop it, its obvious ebay is full of scammers and its not just coins and stamps - anyone want 1 million fake American "Forever" stamps printed in China? - You can get them on ebay. Some fake video games, knockoff Nikes, Russian imitative "Vigara", a Jannspot bag, Some Northfake blazers and some Johnnie Worker whisky from Shandong? all there on the "Bay"

Again it goes back to knowledge is power, when you collect coins - read as much as you can, consult catalogues.

Part of the reason I feel I am at least collecting my coins well, is because I spent years planning and reading about what to collect. I mean I did not wake up one day and think "I want to collect Halfcrowns" I read about the coins I liked, perused catalogues and spoke to collectors and then finally chose coins that not only were fun and challenging to collect - but also appealed to me aesethically.

I spent from 2012 to 2019 fantasising over this collection of Australian florins I was going to amass, before I amassed it and everyone can see, I did pretty well for not much outlay. It took just 12 months to go from nothing to a 1932 Florin that did not come from ebay.

Half of the people buying £7000 BIN 1p coins from 1971 don't do this - they think, oh I just want a rare coin or some bling bling (Hence why sales of NFT chimp pictures are through the roof!).

I mean why waste your time, bothering some internet giant who could not give a fat rats - you know these scams are garbage - move on and concentrate on the stuff you DO want to buy.

Rant over!

Finally as for destroying the coin with a hammer - who cares, its a common $1 coin, its not like he/she is desecrating an 1804 dollar that was not brought off Ali express.

Childish blackmail threats are a surefire redflag, and it would have to be a really strong hammer as these coins are solid metal.
